just posting a sugestion, does the display work fine in safe mode?
If so download the latest drivers on a usb stick from another computer and install it in safe mode on your pc. If this still fails and your screen is messed up it may be due to the video bios on the GPU.
No I haven't tried safe mode yet I will and see. I do have the driver on a stick already but unpacking it leaves me a with a hundred choices of files that I cannot make head or tail of.

Hum I thought this would just be a simple job of just downloading the driver and installing it it sorta doesn't make much sense to me mind you I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to this stuff.

You mentioned the video BIOS forgive my ignorance but the graphics card has a BIOS?

Yes, GPUs do have BIOSes, also where did you download the driver from? ASUS website?
May I sugest downloading the driver directly from Nvidia: Drivers | GeForce
Select your card from the drop down list. It should download an installer which installs everything simply without unzipping or any hassle.

Hiya John. Download from Global. In the unpacked file should be a Install.exe or something like that, it may be inside a folder too.. That will start the driver install and choose Clean install, it'll be near the bottom of one of the windows.

Yup GPUs also have a BIOS. I was thinking maybe there were two 6 pin connectors, but apparently your has only one. I don't see any BIOS for the card there.

John, when you first installed the card, on first start up, Windows should have given a message, new hardware detected and installed a generic driver. If it didn't do that, Windows has not detected the card. Try going to Device manager > display adaptors and see if the card is listed there. If it isn't, that's why you can't install the drivers. They cannot find the card. What were you using before installing the new card, on board?

Ok I have just downloaded the wrong one then I took a punt on the (DLM) one but no matter I can just delete and get the Global.

Well I am learning quite a bit today re BIOS and such I thought it was limited to the board thanks to you both I am feeling a little better than I did last night as I was dreaming about RTM

Plus if the Asus site doesn't cut the mustard this time I'll try that other site for NVidia.

DLM is Download Manager, P2P is Peer to Peer, or Torrent, Global is direct from an ASUS server.
The nVIDIA site may be better.

Hello Steve yes have downloaded that driver twice now once to a stick and installed it and once while the GPU was in the machine mind you it was very difficult to see what I was doing as you can see in the pics.

Now does anyone think perhaps something should be done in the UEFI? - just a thought.

Plus Steve no mate Windows didn't give me that new hardware message.

I have a feeling that the Bios on the GPU may need to be re-flashed.
Have you tried safe mode? Does it give the same result?

    There is no BIOS available.
John, That first "Vista" type screen looks like starting Windows repair. Did you take out the w7 disk or USB stick?
