GenericNon-PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

I have MSI GX-600 laptop. I recently installed Windows 7 wanting to see if it really was an upgrade from Vista. It was. It performs better, is more stable, have fever bugs. But, my graphic card wont work properly. And, when you have a gaming laptop it is essential for the graphic card properly.

My graphic card, an integrated GeForce 8600M GT, only shows up as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". The computer cant even run the screen saver.

It seems to me that Windows 7 fails to find my graphic card. When i try to install the drivers from Nvidia the install stops ans says that my hardware do not support the driver.

I NEED HELP

Hi and welcome,

You need to download these drivers:

32bit:
NVIDIA DRIVERS 186.81 WHQL

64bit:
NVIDIA DRIVERS 186.03 WHQL

The previous poster posted vista drivers.

The one I posted are Windows 7 drivers

Good luck

True, but he said the driver from NVidia for 7 will not install properly. I'm guessing though, that he was probably installing the wrong one.

Tord, try Squonksc's link. That should be the correct, up-to-date one for your machine.

Yes, he said the drivers from nvidia.
He didn't say they were Windows 7 drivers.

Btw, the links you provided are dead.
When I chose either region, I get apache page saying page doesn't exist.

In the device manager, do you now see nvidia driver or still vga?

I'm talking about graphics card, not screen.

In case it's needed, this link should work proper. Sorry about that. I never checked the link all the way through from MSI.

It's actually dated 8-13-2009 so not too old. It is Vista driver though. 32 bit.

How did you install the driver?

Did it complete?
Did you get any warnings or pop ups saying it went ok or not?

Go to Nvidia's website and look for the driver cleaner to get rid of any traces of the old drivers you tried.

Then re-install the latest driver I gave you the link to.
