    NVIDIA 8400M GT Problem

SORRY! I Know this has been posted numerous times probably. Long story short got sony laptop with 7 on it, was fine for few months, then the line issue and graphics card fail that is very common. I tried everything recommended on the net, nothing seemed to work. Tried sony, same sorry bla story people get. Ended up deleting all the partitions. So my recovery discs were useless so got 7 from a mate, tried some more things and one worked, yay!! can't remember what one did, a modifier I think. Anyway, it worked for a day then ****ed out again. Figured i have to revert to shitty vista and went and got it for 20 bucks sweet got my laptop back. But then i noticed very quickly on start up there were lines again, but then fine. But Now, no FAIL!!! lines issue again, picture attached. But now the standard vga one won't update. Stupid computer. Is there a solution tech pros? at all? I thought the problem was no update driver for my video card? But is my video card actually screwed? I have a vgn-fz17g. Do i need a new laptop? SO frustrating

Not sure I understand your "line issue". Do you see lines going across the screen? If that's the case then your GPU is probably dying or your monitor is about to fail. Have you tried installing the video drivers from Sony's website for your model?

Since you already formatted your HDD then that pretty much proves that it's not software but more-so a hardware issue.

    Try drivers from this website
Drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com

Go to device manager, right click on standard vga. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results to the 'Search terms' of the website.

I have tried the hardware id approach and the applicable drivers.

Bullet - there is lines through the screen, and I am stuck in 24 color mode. It's like 1992 or somethhing

Is it possible you could take a picture of it? Could help determine whether it's the screen or the GPU.
