HDMI vid signal only works in safe mode and not Windows 7

Gazz sorry yes I missed about the TV setting. On the remote is a button marked input from which there is an on screen menu selection of inputs to select/highlight. These are ATV (analogue TV) DTV (Digital TV - Freeview) AV ( audio visual ) HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3, PC ( USB 2.0), Scart, Multimedia ( eg camera, phone etc). Ony one input can be selected and displayed at a time. TV screen resolution/refresh is fixed 1080/ 60Hz. There is no VGA input port, I guess the manufacturer thought 3 HDMI was enough!.

It is so perplexing, I want to understand the nature of the problem aswell as get a fix. I will see how I get on with my TV store tomorrow.

honestly i'm not sure about how the revisions work exactly but a 1.4 hdmi port will need a 1.4 cable, earlier revision versions may work but they may not as well.

if it is a 1.3 cable i'd start by getting that changed to a 1.4 revision, or at least get a hold of one to test.

Ok guys just back from TV store where they hooked up my laptop to another FSTV and hey presto everything worked as it should using the HDMI. Straight home and repeated the procedure and I have the same fault. I connect everything, on start up initial video appears with recovery window, then windows starting logo, then.....screen blanks with no signal message.

So now it looks like I have a hardware compatibility issue with my TV. Will speak to the BUsh techie people again now I know cable and W7 installation is OK. Still would like to know what the actual issue is here, so any TV experts out there?. Its a 42" Bush LED backlit display FS HDTV model BLED42FHDAE, purchased in August The laptop is a Medion E series running Windows 7 home premium, Intel HD graphics card, HDMI output also purchased in August. I read somewhere about EDID issues with certain TV sets and Windows op systems, any other ideas?. SOmething happens when Windows completes loading that stops the vid signal with this combo, what is it?....

Still no progress even after long discussion with TV tech support. A nieghbour tried his laptop to my TV with HDMI running W7 Pro and could not get a vid signal at all, even in safe mode. We also then hooked up my laptop to his oldish Goodmans FSTV screen via HDMI and it connected perfectly. W7 automatically adjusted screen resolution and refresh rate.

The Bush tech support tell me this is the first instance of this kind of problem they have on record, but I am not convinced. If I do need a specific driver its not one that is in W7 or suited to the Intel Graphics, which would be quite bizarre!.

The issue has been referred now to a higher level with the TV manufacturer to see if they can recommend the most suitable driver combinations. Am I the only person in the world using W7 home premium on a laptop attached to a Bush 42" BLED FSTV via HDMI ?!!....

What seems to be the problem relates to the driver selected by W7 in detecting my TV as a monitor. In safemode vgasave is the default driver, which on minimum resolution provides a suitable signal for the TV to process and display. On power up in normal mode the TV is initially detected, but once the default graphics and monitor drivers are loaded thats when I lose the vid signal. All windows and Intel HD graphics drivers are up to date and manually selecting alternatives makes no difference. It seems my TV requires a driver that has not yet been developed and must have HTCP compatibility. I note my TV is not listed in the compatibility listing of FSTV for W7 by Microsoft.

I plan to set up an analogue VGA and audio link via the TV PC input and hope the resolution is ok, though naturally will be disappointed not to be able to enjoy HD digital or 3D TV.

The HDMI cable is certified and has been tested on other machines. I will see if the Intel HD graphics submenus allow me to force the communications protocol. What I have noticed in safe mode ( ie vgasave) is a much wider range of screen resolutions available to me, including those of the tv ( 1920 * 1080 ) but even though I try to change these in safe mode to that resolution and click on apply it just returns to the default 800*600. I will see if I can speak with Intel direct. Thanks again...

Neo - I found the Intel graphics media control panel and went into the advanced options and clicked on monitor/TV and hey presto it said these settings were "not supported". I am not sure exactly what this means but the only info the panel would give me related to my laptop display. There was an option to create a customised managment of the driver but still nothing for a remote connected monitor. The plot just thickens!.

I signed up to the link forum you gave me and started a thread with all my up to date info. I cannot find any way to "force" my graphics card to link to my TV.

Neo et al. I have dug deeper into my Intel HD graphics card control panel and it is now clear to me that even with the latest driver installed my "TV/monitor is not supported". I have followed Intel's on-line instructions how to make the TV my primary monitor etc etc but I still get the "not supported" info. This explains everything to me now, that basically there is no driver available to make this card able to communicate with my Bush BLED TV over HDMI. I will take this up with Intel direct. VGAsave works in safe mode as the default basic video driver at low resolution and without audio and as an analogue signal.

I got there in the end, though naturally I am disappointed at least I know the crux of the problem.
