Decisions Gtx 680 or Amd 7970? hey guys, so in less than a month I have around £350 to play with and decided I'm going to buy a single powerful GPU, having SLI you realize its a bit of a pain in the ass waiting for SLI patches ect.
I know Nvidia are epic when it comes to performance and the driver team are phenomenal but I have seen nothing but epic reviews and benchmarks from the AMD 7970 vs GTX 680!
So what I'm trying to find out if anyone here has either of these cards and could tell me a bit about them, if you don't mind of course, I'm heading more towards the AMD 7970 at the moment because of the 3gb vram and performance, I'm just looking for something that can max most if not all games out and will give me 60fps 90% of the time.
Thanks guys. | My System Specs |

It is clear that the 680 is superior by a good 550 points, I would go with the GTX 680, Expect Amazing FPS In Everygame | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Packard Bell iMedia 2218 -- Has Been Running For Almost 7 Years! Even though it has 3gb VRAM. the 680's hardware is more advanced and would compensate for the vram, also i think there is a 4gb version

I was thinking that but I only game at 1920 x 1080 and have a secondary screen for teamspeak and steam ect but there ain't a huge performance gap between the two and the 7970 is cheaper and can be overclocked to beat the gtx 680 :| hmmmm what to do lol. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64x CPU AMD FX 8350 8 core Motherboard Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 Memory Corsair Vengeance 16gb (stock) Graphics Card GTX 680 2GB Sound Card On board Monitor(s) Displays Acer 23" HDMI, Samsung Sync master 22" HDMI Screen Resolution Acer 23" 2ms gaming monitor,Samsung Syncmaster 22" 1920x1080 Keyboard Microsoft x8, Logitech G13 Mouse Logitech G500 PSU Corsair HX 1050w Semi Modular Case Corsair Carbide 500r White Cooling 9 120mm Hard Drives 120GB OCZ-VERTEX PLUS R2 SATA Disk Device (SSD)

I would still go for the 680 as if you do overclock the 680 iw will be mucb better and obviously will still be very decent in 2-3yrs time | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Packard Bell iMedia 2218 -- Has Been Running For Almost 7 Years! I think the 7970 is far better value than the 680, infact they had a 7970 on sale at aria yesterday for £277!
I also think having 3gb of vram is an advantage, certainly for a bit of future proofing. I know a couple of games I own get very close to 2gb of usage right now.
The 7970 is a real powerhouse of a card and in many reviews I have read it beats the 680.
The 4gb 680 is not really an option as it is very expensive in the uk.
Just my thoughts.
Edit: the 680 is pretty much useless for any decent overclocks due to a locked voltage, I read the 7970 overclocks a dream.

Now that paul mentions it i agree that the 7970 will be the better option due to its price tag | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Packard Bell iMedia 2218 -- Has Been Running For Almost 7 Years! Just priced up a gtx 680 4gb wow nearly £450 thats a joke, in my opinion you only need 4-6gb if you are using 3d surround ect I think I'm bought for the 7970 :-) | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64x CPU AMD FX 8350 8 core Motherboard Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 Memory Corsair Vengeance 16gb (stock) Graphics Card GTX 680 2GB Sound Card On board Monitor(s) Displays Acer 23" HDMI, Samsung Sync master 22" HDMI Screen Resolution Acer 23" 2ms gaming monitor,Samsung Syncmaster 22" 1920x1080 Keyboard Microsoft x8, Logitech G13 Mouse Logitech G500 PSU Corsair HX 1050w Semi Modular Case Corsair Carbide 500r White Cooling 9 120mm Hard Drives 120GB OCZ-VERTEX PLUS R2 SATA Disk Device (SSD)

I am in no way a fanboy of either brand, in fact I own a 3GB 660ti, this is a pretty good card, but of the 2 you are thinking of I think the 7970 offers alot more value for money. And I think it will do the job just perfect for you.
