DG31PR and Nvidia GT640

Will my mother board support Nvidia GT640.

I'm confused about the PCI 3 support for this card.

Yes it will work fine. All PCI-e 3.0 x16 cards are backward compatible with older PCI-e 1.0/2.0. Although do be sure that it won't interfere with anything you have plugged into PCIe x1 slot.

The memory on the card has no relation to the memory used on the motherboard.

eVGA lists a 350W PSU w/ 20A available at +12V as the minimum requirement for their GT640 cards. The card itself is supposed to use less than 65W. (It has no auxiliary power connections, so it would be 75W or less to stay within the PCI-E spec.)

You may wish to check the label on your PSU to see whether it can do the 20A. For example: this one:

RAIDMAX:: RX-450K

is nominally a 450W PSU, but it offers only 21A at +12V. That's really poor for a "450W" PSU, but it's still within the requirements.

If you rely on eVGA's requirement, 20A (Amperes) at +12V, not quite. Your PSU offers a maximum of 18A. That's very weak for a "450W" PSU, unless it has more +12V rails than you list.

Your PSU is almost certainly adequate anyway. I'm not sure which Core2 Duo 2.2 GHz CPUs you have, but the most power-hungry one that I find (ARK | Intel® Core) is rated at 65W. If the eVGA spec is written to cover CPUs that consume a lot of power (125W), then derating their requirement for the CPU that you actually have would translate to about a 300W PSU that can deliver 15A or more at +12V.

I'll leave it to others to warn you about the risks of cheap power supplies.

bobkn@ that's the exact CPU i have, e4500.

After a bit of more research, i found that HD7750(almost same rate as GT640) out performs 640.

Hope DDR5 isn't an issue with my MB(as stormy13@ mentioned).

Not very sure what GPU to purchase. Also, I will more like buy a new SMPS for this new GPU.
