    Help with changing brightness?

    Hello,

I made the move to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. Don't get me wrong it's a fantastic operating system, the best Microsoft have ever produced. I'm having problems with my brightness settings. I can change the brightness before the boot screen, but after that, the brightness is unchangeable. I am using a laptop (Advent 5301) with SIS Mirage 3 graphics. Any help would be grateful.

    Thanks guys!

Make sure that you've upgraded your graphics to the latest drivers, I don't recognize that brand.

After that, you should have brightness/contrast controls in the personalization tab. Have you tried those?

    Hello,

I've updated to the latest drivers. When I access the brightness/contrast options the brightness doesn't change, nor does it when I click on the battery (in the taskbar), and then 'Adjust Brightness'. In Vista, when I selected 'Power Saver', the brightness automatically dimmed, and it does not on Windows 7.

If you are using a laptop, and it's plugged in, then most of the standard power option are set so that the screen won't dim until you unplug the computer.

    Hello,

Just tried unplugging the laptop and the brightness doesn't alter, also, I tried to look for a feature in the BIOS, but there is no option to change the brightness option.

I've solved it! Just found the latest Windows 7 drivers on the SIS website.

It should read at the bottom of the web page (the website is a bit odd but the download is still there):

    SiS UniVGA5 graphics driver
    File Name R522_Logo.zip
    Version v 5.22
    Release Date 2009-10-23
    Support Products
    SiSM672MX , SiSM672 , SiS672 , SiS672FX , SiSM671MX , SiSM671 , SiS671 , SiS671FX ,
    File Size 15,098KB
    Support OS Windows 7 ,

    <html>http://www.sis.com/download/download_step1.php</html>

Reboot, and the brightness should alter, it did for me anyway :)
