I just ran the setup.exe from the extracted driver 302.92, and the error message appears as it did before. But no INF file is created in the folder after.
The whole aim was to have DirectX 9.0c installed, but because my graphics card was not detected, installations kept failing etc.
I see what's happening now and now I know why you grabbed 302.77. Try this. If it's what you've already done, then I apologize for the repetition. This is new to me too.
- Download 302.77 (from LaptopVideo2Go's site) and extract it to anywhere you want. It doesn't matter where it gets extracted to. It also doesn't have to be inside of C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver.
- Right-click this and choose Save As: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/3...n7x64/NVDM.INF
- Save it to the the extracted folder in order to overwrite both of the existing NVDM.INF files located in the same folder as setup.exe and also in the folder at 302.77_win7x64\Display.Driver
- Run the setup.exe from inside the extracted folder
If this doesn't work, then I think I'd have to admit defeat.
With number 2. is it Save Link As? then i just save it into the extracted folder and it should overwrite both the nvdm file in that folder and also the one in displaydriver, or would i manually have to save it again in displaydriver?
You could save it once, and then copy it and then paste it into the Display.Driver (not "DisplayDriver").
For me, these the paths to both NVDM.INF files:
D:\My Documents\Setup Files\302.77_win7x64
D:\My Documents\Setup Files\302.77_win7x64\Display.Driver
So, it just depends on where it's located. After that, you'd run setup.exe from inside of the folder named "302.77_win7x64".
I saved it into the folder that setup is in (the base folder) and it prompted to accept the overwrite, which i did.
when i copied into the display.driver folder there was no prompt. but the file is now saved there too one place underneath the original NVDM file that is there. should i get rid of the original file so its just the new one saved in display.driver? then run the setup?
The file type for the original NVDM file says setup information, whereas the new NVDM file type shows Firefox HTML Document, is all this correct?
I just clicked the link for the INF file for 302.77 and it says the file is not available. So could this be why its not working yet?? Would a different version driver with the modded INF available work?
There shouldn't be an original because you told Windows to overwrite it. As for there being no prompt for the Display.Driver folder, that means there wasn't one there to begin with.
However, what you said below might explain it:

Right-click the link for the INF file and choose "Save Link As" and save it somewhere. After that, rename it and remove ".txt" so that all that's left is "NVDM.INF". Windows will ask you if you're ok with doing this because it might become unstable (which won't be true for this file). So say Yes and it will change instantly. This is the file to copy into both of those folders I specified.
I think because the link doesnt work, it hasnt worked properly. because the file is called NVDM.INF and the file type is shown as firefox html document. i will try a different driver update to one that has a moded INF available n see if it works.
The new driver I will try is 301.40. I have it downloading now, can you create a link for the INF like you did for the previous driver as I dont know how to do this.
So can I copy what comes up when i click download modded INF and paste it into the file NVDM that would appear in the 301.40 extracted folder like before and do the same for the display.driver nvdm file.
