GT 9800 failing need replacement recommendations please

Hi. My
GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - NVIDIA - PCI Express Solution - GeForce 9 series - GV-N98TSL-1GI
is failing. I have multiple monitors and have tried it on another and it is actually worse, the monitor shuts on and off and also goes to grey sparkles.
The card is the issue and I think it has a 3 year warranty so I will return it for repair / replacement. What I need from our team of experts is a recommendation for a replacement. My other main machine has a Radeon 6770
GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - ATI - PCI Express Solution - Radeon HD 6000 series - GV-R677SL-1GD
I don't have to have a silent one but something to best both of them would be preferable. I have up to $150 maximum. If I go with a Radeon card I have 3 Windows OS and Linux Mint 14 to reconfigure. Is it still a royal PIA to go from Nvidia drivers to AMD drivers? I don't want to have to do multiple reinstall of OS just for a slight increase in performance. Less noise is more important. I'll most likely be getting the card from New Egg then climbing around in the loft for the box to ship the bad card back in. When I get the card back repaired that will go in the Home Theater PC which uses on board at the moment.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

I just ordered this one , it`s on sale and they throw in a coupon for a game and a $20 rebate.

And mainly because I just got the msi motherboard.

I think the new Nvidia GTX 650Ti Boost has made the plain old 650Ti a poor choice anymore.......better performance for about the same money.

No, the drivers change from Nvidia to AMD or vice versa is pretty easy. There is no way you should have to redo the OS install over video card drivers.

I suggest you use hwcompare.com for contrasting and comparing cards, and pcpartpicker for card prices, see what fits that budget.

Right now I see a Radeon HD 7850 on newegg for $149 after rebate, but even at the extra $15 price you get expensive games with it:

SAPPHIRE 100355-1GOCL Radeon HD 7850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card OC Version - Newegg.com

Can get a card with 2gigs of RAM for about $25 more.

With that you jump into the 256-bit Memory Architecture, the 660 fare is 192-bit and going for $190+ anyway.

Oh yeah best of all, check out the compare:

OK so here is an update. The card got so bad I could not use the machine at all. In the configuration I have this is the main machine with the mouse and keyboard hooked to it. This works my other two machines with the program mouse without borders Download Mouse without Borders from Official Microsoft Download Center. I then remembered my other machine with the 6770 has on board video. So out came the failing 9800 and in went the 6700. First of all I removed the Nvidia drivers on the Windows OS and activated the Radeon 4200 on board on the other machine. Perfectly adequate for watching email and browsing webs sites and gadgets. The 6770 works great in its new home. Waiting for Gigabyte to process my RMA. In almost 20 years of PC ownership that is the 2nd video card I have had fail. With all the use they get mostly they are very reliable.
Have had to adjust my budget to zero at the moment too. I'll update on that later.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Yeah, video card wise failure rate for me was also slim, last one to go belly up was like 10 generations back.

In a pinch a 6770 is a fair card for average needs, definitely.

Yeah, heart health has got in the way of my budget. Have to go and have tests to see what they can do for me. Pump, experimental drill holes in my heart with lasers or transplant list. All depends on my heart MRI scan to see how I am.
