Need suggestions

Well, that was a Firefox error box with a courtesy Kernal self recovery notification, so.... [being a nit, I know]

There is something really wrong if a FF error comes up during use of anything else. ;)

21.0 is so new, that's probably just a 'feature' :p

Hi bud, I was referring to this error, not the FF one.
I wandered if it only came up when using FF or if it came up when using the PC for other stuff. Just trying to track down the problem.

Paul.

Hi Paul,
Last night I tried IE10 and the Display driver error still popped-up, but did not crash IE10.

This morning even at a cold temp. start, the Display driver error popped-up again, with-in the first minute. So the possibility of the GPU overheating and causing the problem can be crossed off the list !

Any ideas ?

Or do I know what you are going to say already ?

Yeah, I think you know.

Unless anyone else can think of anything, it's gonna have to be an RMA sadly.

You could spend hours running memtest, trying old drivers, making regedits.. etc. As you just purchased the card, RMA is the best option. I'm sorry, I know that's not the answer you want.

Don't get me wrong here, I couldn't care less if I have to RMA the card.

I posted the link to see if there was a fix I could use but, I did not understand what I was reading and knew some of the "test's" were over my head.

The fix that usually works (if it works) is an older video driver. If not it is usually memory related.

If it was just a bad fan, you could have just replaced the fan with an additional case fan bolted to the radiator with metallic wire. And maybe torn away the defective fan.
Will look very very ghetto, but as long as it is big enough you won't have issues.
I did that a few times.

Now it is too late, but just saying.

Was discarded by previous owner due to "horrible performance".
Was running Win Xp from a IDE drive. Yeah. Was a pain.
SATA II drive and Win7 and it zips away! Yay!
The fix that usually works (if it works) is an older video driver. If not it is usually memory related.

Originally I installed the drivers from the cd that came with it, before doing the update to 314.22

Thing is I can't recall how it ran before the update

Plus I just reinstalled the GeForce 210, which has an update waiting to be installed but it is 314.22
So for now I will wait to see how it works out even though it was running fine before with the 314.22 installed.

The experiment with the GeForce 210 is working well so far.

Temps for the GPU are 42c low -51c highest with YouTube video's and an online car auction running at the same time, plus email, weather and seven forums open.

There has been no pop-ups for the driver at all. Also Firefox has not crashed at all today.

I going to remove the fan connection on the GPU as the fan was the reason for replacing the GPU in the first place.
Will keep an eye on the temps to see if this works.

He has now RMA'd it Doug.

^This is for the GTX 650Ti Boost.^

The fan removal on the 210 did not work out well.
I ended up having to remove the heat-sink to remove the fan shroud, which was useless with no fan.
Put the heat-sink back on but, it was a waste of time. After restarting the machine, within 60 sec. the temp. of the GPU was 59c and I did not want to chance it going higher and doing damage to anything else, so I shut it down. It is now back to its original configuration and working fine except for the fan noise at cold start-up only.
There have been no pop-ups at all for drivers and Firefox has not crashed either.

So I have to wait for the replacement 650. The RMA went to CA. and will be there by Friday, with the holiday coming Monday it will be at least the following Friday before I get the new one.
