    ATI Radeon HD 5870 Issues

Well I just got my 64-bit version of 7 installed and normally windows just installs the graphics drivers for me. Being this is a new card it didnt do that so I went to the support website and downloaded the lastest drivers there.

I did the install and restarted. I am using my samsumg 52" 1080p LCD as my display. (Keep in mind i used a regular display and am getting the same issues)

It defaulted to the 1080 res and it was slightly bigger stretching past the display on all sides. I switched to 1368X786 cause that fits and makes everything more readable. (Also what I did previously using vista on a different PC)

Well nedless to say it either has been failing when trying to chage backgrounds, there are lines all over the screen, it sometimes works for just a bit but overall it remains unstable. I reformatted with Vista and had no issues.

I also tried to download Vista driver for Windows 7 but the driver is the same for both 7 and vista...

Any Ideas? I'm lost, I built this sweet new system and can't use it!

P.S. I am going to reinstall Vista once more to make sure it is not happening with that OS as well since this is a new comp.

Let us know what happens. The 5870 is a nice, very, very new piece. There's not much known about issues with it yet.

Supposedly though it's fully Windows 7 compliant, if there are issues, I don't know what's the matter.

CORRECTION: I am now experiencing similar issues in Vista. An example is that if I open a new window the old one stays and if I drag a window across, it will leave "tracks" of itself and lines all over....AHHHH HELP!!

I have all my system info in my profile if you want specifics.

The only reason I have the lower settng is because the text and icons are easier to read. I have had it in 1080 and I am still having the same issues.

UPDATE: I spoke with customer support and they stated that I may not have installed my chipset for my MB...I did reformats and never installed the chipset for my board (rookie mistake) anyway I will do that tonight and udate you on the results.

So loaded chipset and all and STILL having issues. Customer support suggested I have a defective card and to proceed with a retun. Anyone else have other ideas before doing that?

Iknow it's not a display issues because I am getting the same result with 3different displays.

I was looking into getting this card because I run 3 monitors, but I was told by ATI that the 'eyefinity' drivers won't be out for another month or so.

I'm assuming that you are running the T.V. via the HDMI out - which to my understanding will not be fully supported until this driver comes out. I know you said it worked fine in Vista, but who knows, maybe when the eyefinity driver comes out it will work better..?..?...?

You could always try doing the RMA just to rule that out 100% I know that's a pain in the ass to have to do, but anyhow...

    Good luck!
