Monitor keeps switching between Generic Non-PnP display and SyncMaster

Hello there, I am new to the forums and I've made account here to seek help from the experts about my problem.

I run on a desktop using:
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5570
    Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 2032mw
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

While using my desktop normally my monitor keeps flashing sometimes and plays the driver "plug" "unplug" sound (well it sounds like it)

Then I go check my resolution by right clicking > Scree Resolutions >>>> Here I see my on the display bar changes after the "plug" "unplug" sound comes from "Generic Non-PnP" to "SyncMaster" and vice-versa.

Please note that the screen keeps running normally on the 1680x1500 resolution on both displays, but the transition between those two is very annoying.

I cannot seem to stop it!

I have installed all newest drivers, and driver for my monitor.

    Thank you.

Welcome to Seven Forums hadihdd. Try this, it just may work. Unplug the video cable from the monitor to the PC. Shut down the PC. Unplug both the PC and the Monitor for 30 minutes. Reconnect the video cable, and the power to both. Reboot and see if this helps. A Guy

I was having this same problem with my monitors switching between generic and brand affecting resolution, Thanks "A Guy" your solution seems to have worked so far. I have found that hard resets works for most plug and play hardware issues.

Welcome to Seven Forums frsystems. The unplug, power off 30 minutes, has also worked on USB and even network adapter issues. Glad it seems to have worked for you. A Guy

    The same problem! Kind of...

Hi, I seem to have the exact same problem, although I run 64-bit Windows 8 on a Laptop.
My laptop seems to be randomly trying to a "Generic non-pnp monitor" and I really do not know why, or how to fix this issue. When this happens however; the exact same things happen to me as the creator of the page. Help!

Welcome to Seven Forums xcalbia12. The same may apply to your laptop. Remove the battery. Press the power button for 30 seconds. Wait approx. 1/2 hour. Put the battery back in and see if the issue is gone. A Guy

No, that didn't work. The problem still persists and it is rather annoying.

Does your laptop have a displayport or hdmi output as well? If you look in screen resolution

Screen Resolution - Set for Displays in Windows 8

Does it show perhaps 2 displays? If so, it may be "switching" displays. What setting is the Multiple displays set to? Try mirror displays as a test if it shows multiple displays.

Well, When it makes the noise of connecting, like when you plug in a device to the computer, It says 1|2 multiple monitors, on one picture of a monitor. but then it makes the disconnect sound, like when you unplug a device, and shows only one display again.

It sure sounds like your laptop thinks you have another monitor connected. Either a hardware fault, or a windows fault. Do you have a monitor to attach? You could set the second monitor to mirror, and then disconnect it. That might prevent the monitors from switching. If not, I'd think you have a hardware issue, but can't be sure as I don't use 8 myself. A Guy
