You know, this must be a joke. Do you guys realize that those posting on this thread have probably built more high end computers than anyone short of Dell ot HP (if you consider them high end)? And we're struggling to figure out how to spend that much money? Sure, any of us could do it, but it would really be a waste of money. I mean really, how much computer does any home user need. I would guess any more than a $2500-3000 computer is just for show.

Kelly, I've seriously thought about building a home server, but I doubt I would need 20TB. Half that, or a little less would suit my needs.

EDIT: Like you, I'm prety happy with my rig, but I just want to build something. Maybe that's why I came up with a server. I have the WHS OS. It's the raid cards that would cost. WHS does not recognize raid, but it can do it without raid and be made to be redundant.

A winning RIG right here Next time please ask for a rig build and not a silly $5000 video card upgrade please OP, I felt insulted.

Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition, MSI GeForce GTX 680, Cooler Master HAF X - System Build - PCPartPicker

Slobbering is permitted:

Was funny though, at this level the motherboards apparently SUCK as a group, go figure.

After it is completed your friend must leave his front door unlocked, and you watch for the cops, TY.

Well, like I said earlier, I am validating my 3rd 4TB HDD now that I am about to set up in RAID 5, so I will have approximately 8TB of usable space, and I hope to grab a 4th one next time they go on sale for 12TB usable space. I have almost 6TB of data to transfer to it when I get it set up. I would ultimately like to have a 6 bay NAS in RAID 5 with a spare drive, to store my data and serve media to my TV's throughout the house. Stuff is expensive though lol.

That is a killer mock-up Faladu! Only thing I would change would be the Velociraptors.....and only because there are bigger drives available for storage. Other than that, there is nothing that rig wouldn't do. The step up from that would be a Xeon/Dual Xeon workstation!

The Velos are in there caz they were the biggest 10k speed drives.
The RAM was the only big CAS7's.

I'd easily put 3 good systems together for that $5000 and still get a couple of good steak dinners with what was left over.

I'd get a couple of steaks cut just the way I want and grill them myself.......I like the way you think!

Looks like there is a lot of replies to this topic. I'll send the topic link to my friend and he will take a look at what everyone said. From the look of what people have said, he will be able to get a completely new computer and still have money left over.

Thanks for the help
