replace Nvidia 8800gts video card

Based on my specs.

Windows 7 Pro OS Sp1
CPU: 1 x Intel Core i3-2120 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000
Motherboard: Biostar - Tp67XE ver 5
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL X 2 of these equal to 16Gig total RAM.

two seagate drives setup as RAID 0

I want to replace this card with a newer less bulky one and get more added performance with less power. I have a 800 watt PSW as well plenty of power.

I was thinking of going to ATI due to lots of complaints with nvidia drivers. also i have noticed after i install the latest nvidia drivers i see mouse lag when installing apps or whatever maybe an issue based on complaints i have seen on Forums i dont want to use SLI or crossfire as i do not need that much GPU performance YET!. i just play games etc on my box. any advice is appreciated. thanks

What's your concern about power and bulky? As long as it fits and works.... :)

I ask because Watts wise, to go less with better card, Radeon HD 7790 is your best bet for AMD card, but if you want very good performance you go 78xx+ series where the watts will start at nearly the same as where you are now.

Card size wise, varies greatly, I have an old 8800 GTS (G92) myself, a bit of a beast... my 7950 fit just fine.

im not concerned with power just less space and i think i can get a smaller card with better performance. plus i see a lot of complaints from users that Nvidia drivers screw up there system which is probably the issue i have. my system should be screaming and yet when i am installing somehting on my system i see mouse LAG which is annoying and i have seen in other forums this a problem with some users that have nvidia drivers installed. i dont mind switching to ATI. I dont want to pay that much maybe $100 for a new card.

Smaller and less power is doable like I said, 7790 would be a fine upgrade, since you are not claiming to be an extreme gaming enthusiast on the PC.

You don't really have any power issue with your current hardware and space, or it wouldn't be working.

That 8800 is large yes, so if worried the new cards are bigger, most are not, and you can tell using the side pictures, if the PCIe actual slot connectors of a shown card are close to the MIDDLE of the full length of the card, it will be a great fit.

All PCI-E 3.0 cards are backwards compatible they will work fine and will not lose any performance.
