Hello hiram1986 welcome to SF

First let us know your Budget and complete specs of your PC including the PSU, Screen Resolution you'll be gaming on. If you're looking to spend over $250 than I would suggest you to go for GeForce GTX 760 Overclocked Edition or AMD Radeon 7870 which is quiet less in price but performs great.

Windows 7 Ultimate Retail Box (64-bit installed) + Service Pack 1

I upgraded from a 5850 myself to a Radeon HD 7950, if really looking for a boost that is it.

Otherwise you save $100 maybe going a tier lower, but you might not be thrilled with the boost.

I have my old 5850 in a box as emergency spare.

So if asking if a current $100 card beats your 5850, no they don't.

Good example here: And this is a roughly $150 card up against it.

http://www.hwcompare.com/14371/radeo...adeon-hd-7790/

So for roughly $300ish you get a 7950 and it's big jump, as seen here:

http://www.hwcompare.com/11645/radeo...n-hd-7950-3gb/

Otherwise if you go Nvidia instead, a 660 Ti or better is probably the good jump, again though $270+.

The jump in performance for the cost is HUGE, welcome to the GAP.

If you don't jump the gap, you get left behind. muhahaha!
