    Help ! W7 won't allow monitors resolution

It SHOULD be 1680x1050 and if I use NVidea's control, W7 just refuses with a white box on a black background saying what I'd just bloody put in is the "optimum setting" at 60hz, every setting should work and doesn't.
    Could anyone help ?

try uninstalling the GFX driver completely & reinstall.....

also try & change the res via the W7 control panel rather than the NV control panel

    see if this helps.....

Tried all that, and the white box wandering round a black background just won't go away. Reboot, still there. Hammer away at the mouse and keyboard, still there. This is being done on Safe Mode.
If I said I am livid with this beta, it would be the understatement of a lifetime.....

Should have put this in yesterday - forgot.
    It righted itself.
I started the comp up yesterday morning and it was 1680x1050 from the off
    Weird.

Thats the thing though - I'd rebooted countless times for the previous two days to no effect.
    Then left it overnight.
Also - yeserday it inexplicably started the same thing with the floating white "optimum mode" error message on a black background.
Went to work, opened up when I got home and it started again fine, at 1680x1050 - if this OS had a neck, I'd STRANGLE it !

Might sound odd, but what cable are you using to connect your monitor to your graphics card?

The usual run of the mill vga cable
    Never let me down before.
    Its W7, I think
I had to get shot of it and go back to Vista, as it wouldn't let me on. Just kept "forgetting" it had the drivers and limited me to less resolution options than Windows 95 gave me.....
Just that damn floating white note on a black background with "Optimum Mode" was 1680x1050 - the very resolution I had been trying to put on !
