Nik, I think you can wait a lot longer, that 690 should be fine for awhile, let software catch up to us.
I have a 7950 and have zero reason to upgrade, as well, probably for a couple more years.
You're right, for example I can't enable AA in Far Cry 3 at 5050x1200 @all ultra settings. AAx2 makes the game unplayable (5-10 fps), AAx8 makes the app crashing. However it does a really great job in 3D rendering programs.
The GTX 690 is actually the fastest single PCB card which the market offers, but it's not enough And i don't want to move to a SLI configuration).
If i will update my rig, I'll take the new Maxwell Dual GPU... Or maybe I'll wait for Tesla generation.
