Error message Display driver AMD stopped responding and has recovered

Hi wondering if anyone has had problems with this message before . Ill give as much info as I can .

Using windows 7 professional . It only happens when I use internet explorer or mozilla online . I can watch video off line with realplayer etc no problem .The laptop pauses for a few seconds then the message pops up and it unfreezes . After a few of these it eventually freezes for good and not even ctrl alt delete can get out of it so I have to remove the power supply to reboot .

Happens randomly , might get 5 minutes of browsing before it happens or 5 seconds .

graphics card is amd radeon 5000 hp .

recently had a cracked screen replaced .

I have tried reinstalling the drivers but windows says that the latest oines are already installed , also its hard to download anything to fix it when the computer freezes while using the browser .

Seems like a very strange problem to me as it only kicks up when using the internet browsers and especially while using the scroll function in the browsers .

Any Ideas of what I could try ?A laptop repair service told me they recommend clearing the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system and all programs again . Id like to avoid that if possible as I dont have the product keys anymore .

Thanks for reading ,

Jam

Do you have a readable key on the COA (Certificate of authenticity) sticker on the laptop?
Sometimes the COA sticker is inside the Battery compartment on a laptop.

Hi jambonsambo, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Do not let Windowis decide which drivers needs to be installed for your graphic card.

Instead download the drivers from here . Uninstall the old drivers, run Driver Sweeper to clean bits of old driver and then install the latest drivers which you have downloaded.

Also, keep a track of your graphic card temprature. Use MSI Afterburner to do that. If temps are high, clean the system and make it dust free.

Keep us posted.
