If you've loaded the drivers, check the BIOS to see if there's an option to select the Primary Display Adapter. That board has a single VGA port so the BIOS is probably set for that port.

Yep. It's usually called PCI/PEG
It needs to be set as PEG for the 8500gt to be set as the primary adapter. The onboard will then be the secondary card which you can connect the second display to.
