Windows listing "Standard VGA" for your video adapter doesn't necessarily mean its using the onboard video. It just means it didn't identify the video card and is only using the generic standard VGA driver. If you haven't been in the BIOS previous to this I wouldn't go messing with it now. I would try the driver offered by HP first. If you haven't already try installing the chip-set drivers from HP. Sometimes this is required to get full functionality of the AGP, PCIe or PCI connector so that the card can be ID'd properly.
It seems that this is close to correct answer. But when i want to install chipset drivers from HP, there is only drivers for win vista - installation in win 7 was cancelled.
Try Intel then, look for , Chipset:
    • Northbridge chipset: Intel G33 Express

    • Southbridge chipset: Intel ICH9R

I think this is it. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...xpress+Chipset

Are these the Nvidia drivers you tried? NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce 331.82 Driver WHQL

Yep, you wanna go to nvidia.com for the drivers for the 9800, ( as suggested ) not HP.

Yeah, for a dedicated video card I go right to Nvidia or ATI/AMD for drivers.

It seems that nothing helps, so i borrowed another card and if this doesnt help i have no other ideas what to do, but thanks to all.

    So another card works fine.

Your running Windows 7 32 bit right? If so I linked to the wrong drivers, my link in my other post is for the 64 bit drivers. Here is the 32 bit driver, NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce 331.82 Driver WHQL

I have spent 11 months figuring this out. I'm incredibly lucky that I didn't turn my computer into a brick. I figured this out pretty much indirectly from a trail of unrelated crumbs on the internet. In the process, I have offended many sensitive people who were obviously damaged by harsh potty training as children. Hopefully, I will offend some more.

The solution is stupid. By that I mean there was a failure of communication between the software engineers and the technical writers. On the Dell Inspiron 580, and I'm pretty sure this applies to other Dell motherFNGboards with the impenetrable AMI bios, there is no access to setting the display adapter. The software engineers have protected you from yourself and from installing a graphics adapter that has significantly better performance than impaired chip that Intel provides for onboard video.

All this having been said and having hurt even more feelings, this is what works.

    1. Click the "Start" button.
    2. Select the "Computer" entry with the right mouse button to select "Manage"
    3. Select "Device Manager" from the "System Tools" list
    4. Expand the "Display adapters" list.
    5. Right click on the adapter name
    6. Select "disable" and ignore the complaints.
    7. Shutdown the computer.
    8. INCREDIBLY, RIDICULOUSLY IMPORTANT: Disconnect the cable from the onboard video connector. If you don't do this, the onboard video will automagically reinstall its device drivers and you will lose your mind.
    8. Unplug the computer power cord and wait 30 seconds.
    9. Start up the computer. The first thing you should see is the NVIDIA card's manufacturer ID.
    10. DON'T PANIC! You will see a pop-up dialog box displaying messages about drivers being installed.
    11. It may take up to 10 minutes for the system to install PCI, PCI Bridge, and other drivers related to the new graphics adapater.
    12. Download the latest and greatest NVIDIA installation from nvidia.com and run it.

No one at Dell could provide a solution this problem.
