4GB GPU memory!!!!

Hi i'm using windows 7 ultimate x64 with a galaxy Geforce 9600GT.
i have 8GB of ram .

on dxdiag under display tab

it says approx total memory: 4096MB.

WOW!!

my GPU is only supposed to have 512MB not 4GB!!! Is this for real?does it actually work and would i notice any improved graphical performances? also is it possible to reduce or increase that number?

If anything, its likely shared memory. As far as I know it is not possible to increase/decrease the number.

You can look at the details from your W.E.I assessment to see the total of shared and dedicated.

I have a laptop here. With a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, 64mb dedicated, 1.6gb shared. It performs about as well as a older 128mb dedicated would.

In my opinion, shared memory is just a way to make it seem more powerful then it actually is... Now I remember why I hate Intel.
