My AMD computer think's it's an Intel

This is a picture of my new motherboard as of last night just before I put it in my laptop. As you can see, it very clearly has an AMD GPU. In fact, it's an AMD Raedon HD 6770 mobile graphics processor.

However, in my device manager, my display adapter shows up as an Intel HD 3000.

I'm pretty confused. I can't get Catalyst Control Center working either. I've had a similar issue in the past but forgot how to solve it.

I'm not having any issues with Windows Aero, but I'd like to get my graphics software installed and working properly, as this GPU is supposed to be equipped with switchable graphics to help conserve battery life.

I can't see what's in the picture, but if it has switchable graphics it must have a GPU other than an AMD one. It would seem the AMD one isn't "turned on" or is not working.

Ummmmm I am quite confused as well. In order for it to show up as intel doesn't the driver need to be an intel driver? I wouldn't think anything would work if you only had a single graphics card and it was amd with an intel driver. It MUST be switchable graphics. What mobo did you get. Is it one for a laptop? I ask because in one of your previous posts you said something about fixing your old laptop.

Something you might try is something called PC wizard.
PC-Wizard CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

I have used it before to detect anything and everything about computers. I am hopping it will tell us something about your mobo. You could think of the program as CPU-Z on steroids.

I too would think in order for it to show up as a Intel; the driver would need to be installed properly.

It does have switchable graphics; I guess what I was implying (though worded horribly wrong) is that I can't get switchable graphics working and my AMD driver isn't even showing up in Device Manager.

if you can see the device in the device manager; uninstall it; then reboot and let windows re install the driver for it(hopefully). Otherwise you may have to go to the amd site and see if there are updated drivers for it available.

You may also want to check in BIOS and see if your motherboard is recognizing the Graphics card.

What computer are you working on? If it is a laptop then manufacturers website should have the driver for it. I think when it comes to switchable graphics you need a special driver. One that will install both cards and tell them they are switchable. Those have been hard for me to find so once again, try the manufacturers website.

If not than you will need to start searching google for a driver that is made for your two cards. I have only delt with switchable graphics once before and it was a nightmare. So if anyone has more experience with switchable graphics feel free to correct me or add on to my statement.

I downloaded and installed the driver from the manufacturer's website (and also the one provided by HP) and it's not working. It's only installing the AMD Catalyst Install Manager and nothing else is working.

The i7-2720QM has the hd3000 embedded. You need to disable the hd3000 in bios. The mobo should then detect the amd gpu and allow you to install drivers.
