@thefabe: yeap this is probably what I'll do, i just hope the brazilian toshiba site fixes their SQL problem so the part of the site with authorized personnel addresses loads properly and i can get the address in my town and I'll take it there tomorrow morning to get it replaced.

Your right I did somehow miss that post.

@Jotage You have tried many drivers and even on a fresh windows install. Like thefabe says if you've got warranty you might as well see if you can get the card replaced. So I hope your warranty goes well with your lappy.

as i said above, ill be taking it to the toshiba people tomorrow and will keep you posted on what they tell me and how they fixed it, though a replace is probably what will solve this little headache we're fighting

Hey guys.

Havent taken it into toshiba yet since i found out warranty is actually blown. well i think its a simple matter of replacing cards however i found this out:

The error seems to happen because of some kind of failure with nvlddmkm.sys. My question is:
Is there any way to fix this file, so maybe things will go back to normal with drivers and all of the horizontal squary things and no GPU Detection?

You are right about that. That happened to me with a brand new Nvidia card.

I just thought I'd post this to hopefully help out anyone who finds themself in the same sitution as I was prior to my upgrade as it looks like th go 7900 gs works just fine

Apparently the Windows upgrade advisor crew has not yet tested the 7900 for compatibility yet. The test will report by default that something not yet tested is not compatable.

So should i wait for their tests and hope for a miracolous fix?

I would go to Nvidia's website and read what they say about the capabilities of the 7900 GS. They should state whether or not it meets Window 7's requirements. If it does, look for the latest driver on their website, download and install it if it is a later version than you currently have.

It says GeForce Go 7900 is compatible on the Laptop Compatible GPU List

When I look for Drivers on their site choosing the following on the Screen
GeForce
Go 7 Series(Notebooks)
Windows 7 64
English

I get 179.48 BETA which is the one I had before it went on collapse when I was still on Vista 32. Then I upgraded to Win 7 x64 and since it tells me this is the current and most up to date driver well, things are still the same. I guess I'm screwed right? Though I've had reports of people that got the same GPU and then said it runs like a charm!

I am not an expert at video cards by any means. And the beta driver did not work for me either. You can try the an older driver, the one listed just below the beta driver.

If that does not work you can try uninstalling the whole video card and then re-installing it.

If that doesn't work, you can try another video card - which is what I ended up doing. I still do not know why my video card did not work. The replacement works great.

I hope someone else will come along with more knowledge and a better ideas than I have. Do let me know the outcome.
