Monitor says "No Signal"

Hi All,

I have recently upgraded my motherboard and Processor and I had some difficulties at first with a BSOD but with the help of this forum they were resolved and the machine ran like a dream.

Three weeks later I now I have a secondary problem. I used the machine in the morning, logged out, went to work and when I came home and booted up there was no signal to the monitor. Im connected via VGA cables.

So I tried the following.
Changed Monitors
Changed Cables
Took out the graphic card and tried to use the onboard graphics
Took out the DDR3 RAM and replaced it. (normally if the ram is seated badly I get the three rapid beeps, I had no beeps but tried it anyway as it fixed my previous BSOD problem)

However, still getting the message no signal
I can see the MB and processer is booting up. I can see there is power to the monitor. I cannot test the RAM or run any diagnostics as I cant see a screen.

Anyone come accross this problem before ? Any ideas will be gratefully recieved.

When you tried this, how (exactly) did you do it?
I picture that since you are looking at only a black monitor that you shut down and removed the video card, plugged the monitor into the onboard VGA, then tried starting up again.

The hope is that the motherboard will automatically switch to the onboard graphics. But sometimes that does not happen and the onboard graphics chip must be enabled again in BIOS. But you can't see BIOS.

If this is the case the solution is to reset the BIOS defaults (some newer motherboards have a BIOS reset button), or try a ClearCMOS procedure. This will enable the onboard graphics.

Yes I did each step by turning off the machine, removed the graphic card and rebooted.
Yes I cant see the BOIS. It is a GiGABYTE Motherboard and fairly newish? Perhaps you are right and the BOIS needs to be set to use the onboard graphics, but when I installed the graphic card I did not manually change any BIOS settings. I think the BOIS automatically detected the graphic card so I assumed it would automaticclly detect and use the onboard graphics.

I am not sure it is a graphic card issue because as I said the machine worked fine in the morning then when I came home from work in the evening I booted up and got the "no Signal" message Nonetheless I will try to remove the CMOS battery later today (after work)

I have checked all the cables. I dont know why but because of the previous issue I had with the SCOD I have a gut feeling its a RAM issue. (reseating the existing RAM solved the BSDO), I just ordered 8 gig of Crosshair RAM from Amazon. I am going to try that. Other than that everything has been replaced these past few months so Im pretty sure it cant be the MB, PSU, or a CPU issue (weel it better not be !! *grits teeth).

I need feedback to see if anyone else had the same issue ? Can the RAM cause the "No Signal" problem?

Any failing component on the motherboard or the motherboard itself can cause a system wide failure.

Do you get beep codes on that motherboard (does it have a speaker)?
Or is there a 2 digit LED code display? What is the code it rests on?

Yes I have onboard MB sound and I can hear the MB booting up and powering down.
No I dont have LED display.
I get the power up beep and the power off beep and I would recogise the rapid three beeps if its a RAM card problem.

CLRTC Procedure (ClearCMOS is the same thing)

• Note all your current BIOS settings
• Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
• Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
• Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3 (refer to your manual for the location of the jumper).
  
• Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the power or reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
• Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
• Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
• Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time in BIOS.

Just to let you know I have reset the bois and it worked fine for a few days.
I replace the RAM as well and got myself 8gig of crosshairvengance
I now have a different problem in that the Crosshair is only running at1300Ghz and I have tried to update the bIos to run a 1600 to no avail
The system is so unstable i can bearly get CPUz to do a report

Sorry for the bad typos Im on my 10 year old lappy
I will try to get the build to load enough to send a report ..

Oh and BTW ... its so cannot be a failing componant .. I have a new MB, New i5 processor , new power supply and also new RAM :P
