HD 4650 not detected after Windows reinstall

Hey guys, Im having a problem and it's driving me crazy.

So I have this older pc, specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800
Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard
XFX Radeon HD 4650 600M 512MB
OS: Windows 7

And it has been used for some time and got slow, so I decided to format the disk and do a fresh Windows 7 install.

But after reinstalling W7 I can't seem to get the pc to recognise my graphics card anymore...
In the Device Manager it only sees 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter'

Why isnt the graphics card detected, it's driving me crazy?

Hi, Welcome to forums.

Have you installed the drivers for the card? You can get them here. Download Drivers

Hey Archer, thanks for your reply.

I have tried installing the drivers, but it didn't work.
But because I'm at a total loss I'm going to follow every advice I can get here and tell exactly where I get stuck.

So okay, I've filled in the stuff on the AMD site and it gives me the download link for Catalyst Software Suite.
It downloads the file : 13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql and I extract it. I run the Setup and it starts installing AMD Catalyst Install Manager.
After install it starts AMD Vision Engine Control Centere.
Where do I get to finally install the driver now, instead of all this manager stuff, I dont see any option?

Also on the next screen you see that it only recognises a Standard VGA Adapter

I have also tried AMD Driver Autodetect, but it gives me the error:
We were unable to find your product or OS.

Go to
start>control panel>hardware and sound>device manager. then selected display adaptors (double click to get properties) then pick the driver tab, the select update driver from the list. You can select the location of the driver you just downloaded.

Or, as you mentioned that you installed 7 now. Did you install win 7 on XP or did a clean install (deleted Windows.old folder)?

To answer your last question first:

I had Windows 7 on it, I can't remember if it was 64 bit or 32 bit, but it probably was 64 bit.
Then I inserted my Windows 7 64 bit cd and booted it from the BIOS.
Then I selected the hard drive to install Windows 7 on, after Formatting it clean.
So there is no Windows.old folder anymore.

Then for your manual update advice:
I go to the Update Driver option on the VGA Graphics Adapter, and pick 'Browse for driver'
I select the location of the previously extracted drivers, then it sais this:

So then I decide to manually find the drivers, in the .INF file:

My graphic card driver shows up in the list:

But then when selecting it:

It does not support this version of Windows... Even though I downloaded the Windows 7 Catalyst package

Did you download 64 or 32 bit version of driver? You said that you have 64 bit Win 7. You have to select your OS as Win 7 64 bit on AMD site and install those drivers.

Yes, I'm using:
13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql
which is the 64 bit version

Alright, Download Driver Sweeper.

Uninstall all the GPU drivers from the PC. After uninstalling, run Driver Sweeper to clean the leftovers of any old driver. Shut down the PC. Wait for some time (10-15 mins. So that there is no static left). Take out the GPU and reseat it properly. Turn on the PC. Make sure the fan on GPU is running.

Boot into Windows. Install the drivers now. Normally simply click on 13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql and run the setup.
