No Monitor in device manager until resuming from suspend/hibernate
I start by saying that my laptop is old and it only has XP drivers in Acer's support page, so I can suppose it's not certified for Windows 7. That being said, these are the specs:
Acer Aspire 1680 / Travelmate 4000 WLMi
- Pentium M 2.0Ghz
- 320GB HDD IDE
- 2GB DDR400
- ATi Mobility Radeon 9700 64Mb
- LCD 1280x800
- Wireless Atheros N (original card was Intel BG2200)
- Bluetooth, IrDA, AC97, card reader, DVD
Audio, IrDA and Wireless card got its drivers from Windows Update. Except for the card reader and the display adapter, all remaining drivers were installed during Windows installation. The display adapter is using DELL's certified drivers and is capable of Aero. There are also 2 or 3 non-certified drivers which are also capable of displaying Aero.
Whichever driver I use, Windows 7 does not list a monitor in device manager after startup. As a result, power save turns off the LCD, but not the LCD's backlight. There is also a black box when I click once in the battery tray icon, covering the text from the battery replacement warning (my battery goes to 0% in minutes but lasts well over an hour and a half after that). There is no backlight brightness controls, but for that I have Fn+left/right.
If I resume from sleep or hibernation, a Generic PnP Monitor is listed in Device Manager and Windows is capable of turning off the backlight, at least until I shutdown or restart.
With Windows generic VGA driver, the Generic PnP Monitor is always listed but there is no hardware acceleration, Aero support or correct resolution of 1280x800.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Is there a solution for the backlight problem?
Thanks in advance for any input.
