Hi and welcome to sevem forums

First thing take a deep breath. We can figure it out. The reason you computer is saying standard VGA is because you need to install a driver for your card. drivers can be found here The NVIDIA® GeForce® G105M GPU turns up your notebook?s visual experience. go download the driver for your system and install it

Hope this helps

I have the same problem as the original poster, but nothing is working. I'm so frustrated. I'm ready to switch to MAC for crying out loud. I went to nVidia and downloaded the driver for my graphics card, and after it finished installing, it simply returned an error message stating that I didn't have the card or something. Sigh....

May I show you the way?
Sigh...thanks, but I just bought my latest computer less than a month ago, maybe next time.

I've been to the nVidia site, unfortunately they won't let you download drivers if your card was already installed in a computer you purchased (I tried and the stupid thing downloaded some ION driver that had nothing to do with my actual system). Then I went to the ASUS site and their list doesn't have a single one of the GeForce cards listed! (Unless they're in secret code or something, are there alternate names for GeForce cards?), it's just a simple GeForce GTX 260M.

Oh there are a zillion programs out there that supposedly will look for and update all of your drivers, for a price. This just really gives me the GRRRRRRR

Right click your card in the device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results to here. I'll make you a custom solution.

I have something similar to this issue.
I have a Dell Optiplex 745 at work. the recently "upgraded" me from XP to Windows 7.
Once everything was updated I found that windows 7 no longer recognized my PCI card .. AT ALL .. would not even recognize that it was plugged into the mother board. It's a VisionTek 2400 pro. I went to visionTek and got the Vista drivers, thinking this would help but to no avail. It shows the card now but says it's can't load the drivers (code 31) nothing I've tried will make this work. I do have the PCI-e card working it's a Radeon X1550. I've tried removing the PCI-e card to see if that was blocking it somehow. I've got the video card on the MB disabled. I'm just at a loss for what to do next.

Nothing you can do. One card uses WDDM 1.0 model, the other WDDM 1.1.

They can not work well in the same Windows 7 system. You could try hacking the installer .inf to make both cards use the latest driver and WDDM 1.1 model. Then you'd have a decent chance of success.

You'd have to install then, for both cards, manually using the device manager. Best if done in safe mode.

hehe .. Greek ..
So which one is 1.1 .. the X1550?
What would one need to do, to hack the inf?
I dont mind having to install both from the "Add Legacy Device" portion of Device Manager.

Sorry the PCI card is a visiontek radeon hd 2400 pro.
the pci-e card is the radeon x1550

If you want me to make a suggestion on how to install, download the latest Catalyst driver Suite from ATI's site. Extract to C:\ATI by running it. Close the installer right after it extracts.

In the device manager, for bot cards, right click on them, choose properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results to here. I'll edit the .inf for you and you could then replace the one in C:\ATI with mine.

torrentg .. here's the info you requested. it looks a little odd to me. seeing that the x1550 has a lot more entries.

VisionTek Radeon HD 2400 pro =

No guarantees it will actually work, but in theory, this is your best chance.

Download my attachment and use the .inf inside to copy and paste over the original you have in C:\ATI

Make sure it asks you if you want to "copy and replace" - Choose that.

Then boot to safe mode and do for each card the following:

In device manager: Right click on it. Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse.

Now navigate to C:\ATI where the .inf you placed there is and double click on it. Hit ok. Finish installing.

(Don't forget to do for other card too.)

Then reboot to normal mode and see if the drivers are working for each card.

TorrentG, I had a few questions.
1) when I take out the PCIe card my machine STILL wont recognize the PCI card alone, how can that be?
2) Which one is the WDDM1.1 card?
3) would it help to replace the x1550 card with a newer PCIe card?

3 - Yes. If you have an available PCI-e slot with enough psu horsepower (meaning if power supply is large enough electronically speaking), purchasing any ATI HD line of cards will work very well and most likely, with very minimal effort in your current setup.

Well I brought in a newer PCIe graphics card from home and took out the PCIe X1300/1550.
New setup nVidia 8500(I know it's still old but it has W7 drivers from nVidia) and the VisionTek 2400 HD Pro PCI.

This STILL wont recognize the silly PCI card ... at all .. like it's not even in the PC ...
If I take everything out and reboot it comes up to the built in video card.
if I put in JUST the PCI card I STILL can't get it to be recognized. it's like W7 elimated ALL support for PCI video cards.

I do see what you are saying. I appreciate all your help.
I still dont see why the PCI card by itself is not recognized by Windows7.

I will endeavour to get a nice shiny ATI card for my pci express slot.
