Windows 7 not showing option for 2nd monitor

I have just purchased a new Toshiba 32" tv to use as my monitor. It is HMDI compatible and I picked up the appropriate cable. However, my windows setup does not show an option for a 2nd monitor which I understand I need to use in order to install and use this new monitor.

    Please help

Right click the desktop and open screen resolution. Aren`t both your monitors there ?

What video card are you running ?

Does the new monitor show in Device Manager ?

No idea what you mean about this option you`re talking about, just plug the hdmi cable into the monitor and your card, turn on the monitor and boot the pc.

None of those. I cannot see any option for a 2nd monitor anywhere...I've tried everything you mentioned.

Video card is nVidia GeForce GTX 770

So why won't windows offer that option? I've seen it on my older setup and even used it. I recently updated my system.

ASUS Maximus VI Hero Socket LGA 1150 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I74770K
    Samsung 840 Series MZ-7TD250BW 250GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal SSD
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-16GBXL

I called my tech before purchase and he said my system does have an HDMI port so I had no worries about that. Even got the appropriate cable

What is this option you`re talking about ?

Plug just the new monitor in, does it work ?

Do you have the tv on the right input ? HDMI 1 or 2 or 3 etc ?

If I connect my "40 with the HDMI cable windows makes the device connection noise, then 3 monitors show up in screen resolution, you shouldn`t have to do anything.

You have the HDMI cable going to the 770 correct ? Dumb question but hey :)

Give me a link to your video card.

All your monitors are connected to this correct ?

I only have one HDMI port on my pc. That is where I plugged the cord in and selected the HDMI 1 on the tv as the Toshiba tech walked me through it. HOwever, he said I needed to select second monitor option...but my pc screen when I right click the screen to pull up that monitor info, there was only one option...nothing for a second monitor anywhere.

Bless you...you are a genius. I doubled checked the back of the pc to make sure my ports were on the correct spot....I feel silly but it appears I plugged the cable into the motherboard instead of the video card.

    Pictures are worth 1,000 words...tyvm

lol...but great learning experience. Now I can see my wall paper on the tv...so all I need to do now is to get my desktop to show so I can use it. hehehehhe
