Radeon Question (No display adapter)

Hello, I would really appreciate some help!
I successfully installed the driver on my old machine for a Radeon 9200 by installing in XP Mode.

However, on my new machine which has a X1900XT, there isn't even a "Display Adapter" listed under device manager. I have tried installing the drivers from ATI's website for Vista and XP under those modes but it doesn't work.

I think I could manually install a driver if it would let me see a "Display Adapter" under device manager. Any idea on why it wouldn't show at least a generic display adapter there?

My motherboard is an Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe, maybe I need a driver to enable the PCI Express port???

I'm clueless.

Wow, this is a new one to me.

Can you please post 2 screenshots of device manager showing the display adapter section after double clicking it, even if empty. And the other, of all your system devices.

The funny thing is that it doesn't even have a Display Adapter section under device manager lol.

In device manager, you could try going to view at top and choosing "show hidden devices."

Perhaps something will show up. Cool. We'll have a look then.

Here is a screenshot of my device manager:

As you can see there is no Display Adapter category even shown. I did enable Show Hidden Devices and it still shows the same thing.

Still not having any luck. The Catalyst installations finish and everything and it reboots but nothing ever shows up under Dispaly Manager. :mad:

I've never seen this before. Can you post a screenshot of sound, video and game controllers section?

Hit action, scan for hardware changes and see if that makes anything pop up in display adapters.

No, I don't have anything disabled in BIOS. I haven't changed anything since I had XP on the machine and everything worked then. I will send some screenshots of everything else this evening. Thanks again.

You need that functioning well.

Visit your motherboard manufacturer's site for updated bios and/or chipset drivers.

Report back if you found and installed along with new status/screenshot or error codes.

Disable any unnecessary and unused ports in bios after flashing or right away if there are no bios updates.

I'm having the same problem right now ... on my way over to Asus's website to download latest motherboard drivers.

My problem is with a BFG 7300 GS video card and a Asus M2A-VM motherboard.

Will post update in a few min

Downloaded the Asus Update utility (Vista 32 bit version) and the latest BIOS (version 2302). Rebooted the comp, then when Windows loaded I was prompted to reboot again, and after that reboot my dual monitors were finally working! :D

In Device Manager I now have a Display Adapter with my 7300GS shown underneath it. PCI Standard Bus - Bus no longer shows an error.

Problem solved for me.

Luckily the Asus Update program runs through the Windows environment so I didn't have to make a bootable usb or anything like that. It was 2am and after working 18 straight hours I did not want to go through that hassle.

Bios updates always recommended to be done outside of Windows. Exception is when only Windows utility is offered by manufacturer.

This is to avoid conflicts with OS/software and to prevent system failure while flashing. If that happens, you'll have to purchase a new bios chip for the motherboard.

Safest way = boot to dos

I used the windows utility that came with my motherboard CD...good thing since I don't have a floppy drive lol.

And you know this, maaaaaan! :D (Floppy drive not needed however. Other ways possible outside Windows too. Boot to USB. Boot to DVD/CD. etc...)
