Many times the driver that Microsoft offers is an older version. I would only download video drivers direct from NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, etc as applicable.

I would normally fully agree with that (and in the past I have been caught out before) but unfortunately manufacturers don't always keep their driver downloads up to date or take on board issues and try and resolve them. Dell/Intel are a specific case in point for me. Dell 3750 Vostro laptop has a major freezing issue when using slide show in windows live photo gallery. I uninstalled the driver and let Windows search for one, and the one offered is bang up to date and most importantly for me, corrects the problem (although it needs a couple of settings tweaking as its not an OEM approved driver).

However, what firebird says should be considered, Microsoft haven't had the best reputation for offering drivers so go into any changes with your eyes open. I use Acronis imaging and so if things go wrong I can 100% undo changes. If you can't do that, beware.)

Hi thanks for the information,
According to a search this is what your machine has installed,
It would be easier for you to Fill in your system spec's page with the link above my signature picture to narrow your equipment down a bit,

Hi,

After I installed Intels latest (offered via Windows update after uninstalling the old Dell driver) all is perfect. The wpg issue was something that had bugged me for ages and wpg was the only application that showed this problem up. Select something like pan and zoom and after around 15 seconds the screen would just pixelate, the fan was running full speed too during this issue. All is well with the new driver... been running it for some weeks now.

(The Vostro graphics are the Intel Core 5i HD3000)

Thanks for the interest

No problem please fill in your system spec's anyway

I never liked the pan and zoom mess = pure waste of time I prefer fade,
So I use windows photo viewer instead or windows media center because it still has the options to fine tune the slide show timing which wpg still does not have,
Cheers.
