To Sardonicus: How do I go into BIOS? I'll check the Intel Graphics thing with the external monitor now too.

To HoneycombAG: Yes, I did indeed check in Device Manager. There are no exclamation marks on my monitors.

Is the monitor lit when you plug in your display (as in, does it display a picture, but show all black, or does it say "No Signal" or "Out of Range")?

When I plug it in, for a split second, my laptop will flash black on the built in display, but there's no response from the monitor. I can cut the monitor off and back on and it'll say no signal but then go to black. It won't even try to get a picture as far as I'm aware. My laptop simply switches to the settings it would have if the monitor worked properly on my laptop.

Checked into the Intel Graphics thing, Sardonicus. It's still a no-go.

Oh, but my external monitor is showing in devices and printers and device manager just fine. I right clicked it in devices and printers and went to troubleshoot. It couldn't find a problem with the monitor even though I can clearly see that the monitor is black. Tested it again today on my old computer and it works just fine so it's still an issue with the laptop itself.

I'm not sure how to go into BIOS still and I'd hate to damage something further. :O

You can also try uninstalling the driver from the device manager. Restart PC.
Install the Intel driver in the link, once again.
Other than that, that's all I can think of.

Tried that and it's still a no-go. I really appreciate you trying to help me. All of you were so kind! I'm hoping someone else can reply to this thread with some further help like how to go into BIOS or something. I'm still wanting to try to fix this issue. :O Thank you for working with me on this though!

How does one go about testing a VGA port on a laptop with a CRT monitor to check if it's sending out a signal?

You could try different cables ... that is, if the cable in question isn't permanently attached to the monitor in itself.

"CRT monitor"? Do tell!

I'll try other cables next. I have to go into my closet to find them though. (YIKES!) Will post back what happens with that and I'm gonna try a fourth monitor.

Extremely late on this but as it turns out the inner wires for the VGA port are actually broken up. All this finally came to light when the screen started falling apart. I'd had the screen replaced before and the repair man said there was one screw missing. One screw did all of this. The laptop is torn up but will still cut on. I have the screen taped so it still shows an image. Some other parts went out in it for various reasons but I have a new computer finally. Sorry if this is necroing the thread but I thought you should know that something like that caused it to stop showing the VGA output.

External Display help?
First of all, thanks for reading! So, I plugged in my external monitor, then set the display preferences to "show desktop only on 2". All was great. Then I had the bright idea to experiment with different resolutions and see the result. Result: my external monitor didn't like the first one I...

External Display won't work
I'm fairly certain this is a driver problem, but I still haven't been able to solve it. Before upgrading to 7, I was using my laptop as my primary dvd player, since I didn't have on. I'd hook my laptop into my TV using a an S-video to Composite, extend the display and play the movie. Worked...
