Unable to update graphics drivers from device manager

    Greetings all,

I have a AMD 4250 mobility graphics card and am trying to update the drivers for it.

Am unable to use the installer from AMD as I get the "INF not found" error but the files are extracted by the installer to the correct location the step before hand so I try to install them through device manager and I can find the driver either by browsing to the correct folder or by using the 'browse installed drivers' method but in doing so I receive an error "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it" - Name of driver - "There is no driver selected for the device information set or element"

The only option have I have is to close. I get this error by using either method of finding the driver that I mentioned. If I select for Windows to search Windows update to find the correct driver, I am given the option for an even older driver!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas

I'm very 'computer savvy' so if you need to ask for any details or diagnostics etc I will be able to provide with no problem :)

    Hi Alex.

Is this for the laptop in your specs? If so, you should get the graphics drivers from HP, rather than directly from AMD. They may install better that way. Usually with a laptop, the OEM drivers are the best fit because manufacturers often put little tweaks into the hardware, and the manufacturer's drivers account for that. I learned that the hard way with my Toshiba laptop.

One thing about Windows Update. It might be finding an older driver, but it is probably the most correct for the laptop. I know it seems counter intuitive, but OEMs don't usually release many versions of drivers, and often an older driver is the best fit. Is there a reason that you need the newest AMD drivers? Like a game that won't work right, or something?

    Hi there

Yes, the laptop in question is the one in my specs, I have checked the HP site and they only give me the 2010 driver, I managed to update manually to the 2012 driver but cannot update to the 2013 driver. I think your theory about Windows update may be correct as the driver Windows update gives me is the 2010 driver. (the same driver as offered by HP)

I am seeing about updating my drivers as I am finding a handful of games that don't run correctly on the 2010 driver along with some software I use for university doesn't run on the older driver.

    guru3d.com is a driver site I recommend.

    BUT...

A 4250 is not a power house, the driver may not matter at all, look carefully for it being listed explicitly in any driver update if you are determined.

I'd also consider updating the BIOS on the laptop, but check notes to see if it claims any improvements, first.

Also, what errors do you get that tell you it was the video driver issue, add a screen shot or two if able, is always helpful to us.

I have indeed updated my BIOS. I don't have any screenshots of errors etc. to show you but mainly I'm getting items of software crashing or not installing and the only advice I'm given by the vendor tech support is update my driver. Also the handful of games that I have that I can run (as correctly stated, not a powerhouse of a card) some end up with texture errors in game (grey triangles or colours not appearing correctly) but I suppose it is safe to assume that the older driver from HP is better for my system since it's from HP and designed for my system as a whole and not just for the card as if it were a separate entity like with a custom machine?

Unfortunately, the best driver for you probably is that old HP driver. Mostly because it was designed for the whole system.

The grey triangles actually sound like artifacting.
