effectiveness of win7 monitor calibration?

hello,

been reading about Windows 7 monitor calibration for color matching at microsoft site and how to do it. don't have Windows 7 yet tho. is this monitor calibration effective? colors on monitor and printed materials match pretty well say compared to 3rd party calibration tools? thanks for the input.

It's not too bad. Obviously not as good as proper 3rd party calibration.

The outcome is largely dependant on how well your eyes 'match' what is being put on screen.

You really need a colorimeter (i.e., additional hardware) to get good matching. What MS provides is mainly better than nothing.

If it's something that matters to you for photos, etc., I'd look into something like a Spyder2 at the least.
