Nvidia 8700m gt problems

If I install the real drivers for my Nvidia (tried several versions) my screen will randomly flash and every now and then I will get a blue screen and a dump. The "newest" version that actually has my card supported is 186.81. Any advice? Not sure if its possible but I'm wondering if I could turn off the shared memory to see if that might help. It runs 512 dedicated and I think around 1700 shared from system memory.

I have 3 gigs of ram, t5750 processor, and two 160 gig hard drives. I had zero issues with vista.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well the newest drivers wouldnt even let me boot into windows. I found some old vista 64 bit drivers that were working with a minor flash. Then I went into the views and changed it to windows classic and no problems so far.

well nevermind...started flickering and I blue screened again...

"TDR standing for Timeout Detection and Recovery is a feature in DirectX graphics kernel subsystem (dxgkrnl.sys), where if GPU, which is the heart of graphics card, could not be preempted by the Video Scheduler for 2 seconds (can be overridden by TdrDelay registry value under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers) from its current task, is considered hung. After the GPU is determined to be hung, system collects state information necessary for post-mortem analysis. Then system gives 5 seconds (can be overridden by TdrDdiDelay registry value) for threads to leave the driver. If the timeout is not sufficient, VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (116) bugcheck is reported. Otherwise GPU is reset and system attempts to restore desktop to the same state as it was before the GPU hang. All this happens without reboot and Vista logs event 4101 (Display driver <yourdisplaydriver> stopped responding and has successfully recovered) and shows the message in the system tray."

You should contact Toshiba's technical support and see if you can get them to replace the board for you. Save the crash dumps for them.

Perhaps before doing so, update to the latest bios available from their website for your model. See if that helps any.

Well I have dual boot and the card works perfectly playing games in vista...zero issues in vista.

And downloaded the link in post 4 and installed the modified drivers and it seems to have fixed things. Supposedly it turns off some power feature. Not really sure but it works.

Most likely masking hardware problems.

You could try using the driver that you use in Vista.

Nope...I had a the 32 version of vista...went with the 64 bit of windows 7. I never run this laptop on its battery anyway so im not worried about it losing a powersaving feature when running on battery. The thing is huge...I have a netbook for travel. Seems like everyone with an 8700m has this problem though.

Anywho...thanks for all of the help. I'll do a search every few weeks along with email nvidia and toshiba to see if they can figure something out...along with sending copies of my dumps and these forums. Maybe I'll get to upgrade my driver to a non hacked new one )

The drivers aren't "hacked." They're only .inf modded to include models. Driver is always same and intact, no matter.
