I went back to my old monitor, but now it doesn't look right.

I think Adram meant on the monitor.
I had assumed he meant on the CRT, and answered the question under that assumption. If he meant the LCD, yes, there is a factory reset, and I used it several times. At its default settings, it is ridiculously bright and very washed out looking.

The monitor manual might be of some use:
    ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-produ...uide_en-us.pdf

I already have it. I had already downloaded it before the LCD came in the mail.

You might also want to run the Calibration wizard with the LCD connected
I already did that. It didn't help. I've also tried QuickGamma, Screenbright, and Gamma Panel. Nothing helped.

Actually the Viewsonic I linked to is a 21.5" IPS panel.
So it should be a pretty good one?
I think so, I would buy one. I had a Viewsonic before and it was fine. It was a 4:3 so we upgraded to 16:9. I should say I've not used an IPS panel but my next one will be. Plans are to get this one. Amazon.com: Dell U3014 UltraSharp 30-Inch PremierColor Monitor: Computers & Accessories

The U3014 does look like an awesome monitor! ive been tempted by one of the ultra wide screen 21:9 jobbies! but im not sure i could handle the fullscreen playing games as i get motion sickness not sure how well games would play windowed at 1080p!!
