Video Driver Issue
I'm trying to play Diablo 2 on an older HP desktop with onboard video. I get "Error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct3D" (This only happens when trying to run it in fullscreen mode, and I need fullscreen mode the first time running it because it won't update/validate version in windows mode)
I see 2 possible ways to get around this,
#1 Get the proper video driver (right now it's using "Standard VGA Adapter". HP only offers XP drivers on their site for this model Pavillion a500n. I tried taking the name (VIA S3G Unichrome) and searching, but several downloads later I'm still stuck. I don't think I ever found the exact correct driver. It is a VIA KM400.
#2 Fix DirectX in some way such that it still works using the "Standard VGA Adapter" driver that is currently installed. It's DirectX 11. Here is the dxdiag.txt below if you choose to go this route.
dxdiag.txt @ pastebin
I have a workaround, did a manual patch to update so I can simply run it in windowed mode.
However I'd still like help because the colors looked all faded and occasionally I might want to run in fullscreen.
According to THIS it isn't possible, but I refuse to believe that just yet...
