Hd3200 & hd4650

Okay Guys, i really need your help!

I've installed Windows 7 Home Premium, which arrived from Acer.
It's an Upgrade DVD.

Here is what lead to my frustrating problems :

1.I made a clean installation (Formatted C and installed Windows 7 there.
2.I installed Drivers / Apps that came with my Acer Upgrade CD.

Here is the actual problem :

I have two GPU's installed into my machine (HD3200 and HD4650), its an Acer 8530 G. It's ATI Power-Express that controls which GPU i use. it seems that HD3200 GPU is running, okay thats good - but whenever i click "High Performance GPU" in ATI-power express NOTHING HAPPENS! - its still using the HD3200! - Windows has detected the HD4650 i can see that in the device manager

Bottomline : I cant switch from HD3200 (Low Performance gpu) to HD4650 (High Performance GPU)

Btw : I have an "Auto-Setting" that sets it to the High Performance (HD4650) whenever i plug the cable in. Whenever i do plug it in, it asks me if i want to make the switch. I push "Switch" and it does not switch. Instead the icon on the taskbar just blinks with "Low / Power saving gpu enabled"

Help me!

1. First Screenshot : I just pushed the "High performance GPU button"
2. Second Screenshot : The Result, in the corner it says "Low Power GPU switched"

Yes, i did fix it !

Okay, here is what you need to do.

First, open your CCC panel (Catalyst Control Center)

Now click in the top right corner, where it says "options".
Now click "Profiles" and then click "Profiles manager".
Create a profile, where you specify that it should use HD4650 card. And then activate it.

If that doesn't work. .. What country do you live in?. It's possible that i can come and fix it in person.

Best regards, Christian

I'm not sure what I did, but I believe that installation of Catalyst version 9.12 activated the 4650 card after a reboot. It now appears as the primary card and not the 3200. The ATI PowerXpress is still empty like on your screenshot.

As the 8530g is my parents in-laws pc they were happy that it works (sorta) now and took it with them, so I havn't tried your "fix". Did your fix make the PowerXpress work and show it information correctly?

Can you post which version of catalyst driver package you use or even better a direct link to the download?

Btw. I am Danish like you. :-)

Denmark ftw, here is the info :

Sure thing, i can post a link. But i didn't make Catalyst show the correct information. But it does use my high-performance GPU (HD4650).

As you can see on the screenshots, i switch to power saving. But it is my HD4650 that is activated.

And finally, here is the link to the Drivers : ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

Keep in mind, the link is for 32-bit!

Thank you again.

It looks just the same behavior I was getting yesterday. It must be a bug in the driver, but as long as the 4650 is enabled and working, it's not such a big problem. They rarely use it on the road so it's plugged in most of the time. Hence no need for the power saving featurs.

Best regards

Jake

If both of you (and anyone else with a laptop that is getting this issue) could go here,

and report it, there is a better chance of it getting fixed.
