Sapphire Radeon HD 2400 PRO AGP

I have upgraded my PC to Windows 7 professional, but the standard ATI graphics card driver with windows 7 won't load (It reports error 43, driver has halted)

I've tried installing the sapphire vista drivers by hand with no succes. ATI only supports PCI drivers (on vista they are hotfixed by sapphire to work , but they don't supply windows 7 drivers (yet)) After manually pointing to the vista isntall directory, the drivers get installed, but windows 7 won't load afterwards and reverts back to a restore point

As i've read some succes stories with an 3650HD AGP card by modifying original ATI drivers inf file, I was wondering if and how this could be done

Welcome to seven forums. You will most likely have to modify the inf file. Go to device manager>click on display>properties>details tab>drop down menu hardware id and post a scren shot. Thanks A Preferred Method of Uploading/Posting Screen Shots

Instructions for installing ATI HD 2400 PRO AGP, ATI HD 3850 AGP, ATI HD 3650 ALL MODELS x86 32-bit:

    1) Download the Catalyst 9.10 32-bit driver Suite for Windows 7 from here - Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM - Click on
    ATI Radeon™ Video Card Drivers

    2) Extract the driver folder by running the .exe you downloaded. It will extract to C:\ATI

    3) Close installer after extraction. No longer necessary. Do not continue with install here.

    4) Download my attachment (CL_83742.rar) and extract the .inf file from it. Save to desktop or anywhere you want.

    5) Copy and paste the CL_83742.inf you just extracted directly overwriting the original at this location - C:\ATI\Support\9-10_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF

    6) Go to device manager and right click on your video card. (Standard VGA or otherwise.) Update driver software, browse, let me pick, have disk, browse.

    7) Navigate to C:\ATI\Support\9-10_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF

    8) Click (or double click) on the CL_83742.inf

    9) Hit ok and let it install. If it complains that it is not signed, let it install anyhow.

    8) Reboot if necessary. Pick an Aero theme by right clicking on desktop, Personalize.

    10) Run setup.exe in C:ATI\Support\9-10_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver and let it complete to install the CCC, should you want the functionaltiy.

    11) Install ATI Tray Tools (attsetup.rar in my attachments) if you wish to overclock. Ensure adequate cooling. Disclaimer - Should you choose to overclock, responsibility falls entirely on you.

    12) Update your WEI score. Start menu | right click Computer | Properties | click Windows Experience Index

Thanks for the solution. I lost some time with selecting the right menu item (in my dutch installation, after selecting browse you can also choose to browse for a location in which case you can only point to an installation directory, which doens't work).

But after choosing the pick from a list and then browse to a disc/location (which lets you point to an inf file) , the driver was installed.

    Thanks very much.

The driver works for 99.9%. I found one strange thing, when I attach a second display (my LCD TV) and a different resolution, extending the desktop to the second monitor leads to a distorted background image. When the 2 resolutions are equal, all is OK

    Good day :)
I have the same problem with my Sapphire Radion HD 2400 Pro AGP, but the solution above didn't help me. I've installed catalyst 9.10 for windows XP and get my card to work with my monitor resolution 1650x1080. But, in windows 7 I get video card score = 1.
    Best regards, Maxim.

P.s.: sorry for my english :)

Probably because your motherboard is too old to run 7 then. Which is it?

I have an old (2005) Asus barebone with ASUS P4P8T motherboard. BUT!!! Previously I had Windows 7 Beta version (pre release or something like that) and Windows Experience Index was 4.3 (now 1.0) :)

Yeah. That board is way too old as Asus doesn't even list it on their page any longer. You can try to locate Vista drivers for your chipset but that is not likely.
