    Ati x1650 pro Counterstrike:S

I recently upgraded from windows xp to give windows 7 a chance after all the hype ive been hearing about it.

From the get go i had no issues, however once i installed steam and world of warcraft i started to notice a few very minor performance drops. Id run world of warcraft and nothing seems to have been affected, frames are between 40-75 at any given time and runs great.

My issue is when i try to run counterstrike: Source, I have updated to the new catalyst drivers 9.1, The game itself runs, i connect to servers and my ping is fairly decent 70-80 which seems to have gone up since installing windows 7 but not an issue. My problem is Fps Bog downs. One second ill be running at a solid 50-60 frames, then immediately bog down to 10-20 when to many people or grenades or i take a corner to fast. I had no issues like this in xp and wondering if anyone else is experience these same FPS drops for no reason.

Also running the video stress test i get 75 constant. i have tweaked my graphics card to permormance and tried multiple settings with no effect. i also have verticle sync off.

(and i also noticed this was in the wrong section after i posted :P ) my apologies

CSS runs fine for me, only thing I couldn't do was run it in SLI or the computer crashed.

Have you used a custom config for performance?

I'm having the same problems I also run a zombie mod server and i can't play on it due to major lag. I had no problems in XP. ATi is being a pain right now and wont update the drivers for DX9 cards.

I just joined these forums to look for a work around on the drivers because the ones packaged with the OS aren't very good

has any of you tried using the heapsize flag? or whatever it is to specify how much memory you want used? this might not even be a gfx problem but more a CS:S problem, I was actually thinking of installing steam right before I read this thread (cause i just re-installed win7 lol). though when I had it installed (i was using x64, now I'm back to x86) I had NO problems what so ever and I probably won't this time. we'll know in a bit =P cause I have to dl all of steam now. =(

it happens even in my computer
its because windows 7 has lot of network services and other things running in background.try disabling services which are useless.
like error reporting service, change update options, etc....

There shouldn't be network problems, the network services would only cause LAG not a drop in FPS. Some might think it's a drop in FPS but it's not, and I just got done playing CS:S system specs:
    AMD64 2200+
    GeForce 8800GT
    1G RAM

I can play indefinatly and it doesn't lag up, might be drivers? I see one person with nvidia saying they have the same problem, I don't know what to tell you but I doubt it's universal to all. I didn't do anything special to my install, I have Win7 7264 and the latest Nvidia drivers nothing special.
