Bought Latitude e6400 with windows 7 installed. Had been Vista. Getting prompt about Display Driver/Intel graphics for Vista not working and shuts down and restarts.

Im a little confused. You bought a new e6400 with 7 already installed? Where does the vista come into play? Was this bought new or did you buy it from someone that had Vista previously but then installed Windows 7?

Where did you download the drivers from? You should be getting Windows 7 drivers from here:
    Product Support | Dell US

If Vista drivers aren't working (which they typically do work on Win 7) make sure you change the OS so that you download the correct drivers.

Did you just acquire this pc ?

Did the pc come with a Windows 7 key ? If so re install 7, start from square one.

Bought the laptop used/refurbished from a private party. Originally had Vista but he installed Windows 7. I do not have a key. The only real problem I have is that the screen goes black--comes back and I see the prompt about the display driver has stopped and recovered. Thanks for responses.. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated..

I might add that I am very much a novice when it comes to these things so thanks in advance for understanding.

Try to download/update the driver at the site I posted a link for in my first response.

Make sure you download the display drivers for Windows 7

    Is windows 7 activated ?

Does the laptop stay on at all ? Can you run windows update ?

Does it have the COA on the bottom ? With a readable Vista key ?

Let us know if you`d like to re install Vista.

Yes it stays on and I would say probably if used constant to 1/2 hr. it shut down probably twice. I would like to stay with W7. No COA.. It is updating and I ran a full scan today.
