Fn + F8 should switch between integrated and external display. Your Fn key is in-between the left Crtl and Win key.

And after you do that, you may need to make some tweaks to one of your display's HDMI ports to optimize it for PC use (otherwise it'll look like garbage). Or at least, that's the case for all of our Samsung HDTV's. Your mileage may vary.

The following should help you out somewhat there:
Screen (for PC input)

Then most likely we're dealing with a maligned setting on either the TV or GPU. Does your TV, at all, detect the PC?

Are you certain you set the port up as Sony recommends:

"The 1080p timing when applied to the HDMI input will be treated as a video timing and not a PC timing. This will affect the [Preferences] and [Picture & Display] settings. To view PC content, set [Scene Select] to [Graphics], [Wide Mode] to [Full], and [Display Area] to [Full Pixel]. ([Display Area] is configurable only when [Auto Display Area] is set to [Off].)"

You also need to be sure you're selecting the correct port in the AV input menu (easy mistake to make before you've set it "for PC").

And if memory serves, I had to cycle the Fn + F8 key on my notebook several times before it finally got picture (there are several 'modes' of that function, you have to cycle through them to get the one that works or so that's my experience. Hold Fn and keep tapping F8 a few times to make sure that's not it). There were also some things I then had to do in my GPU's settings but that's going to be very different (my notebook's an ATI not Nvidia). Someone else will need to come in and help you out with that. I have no mobile Nvidia GUI to play with to get you the right settings procedure (desktops aren't as finicky by half).

EDIT: Found this for the Nvidia GUI... check yours and see if its the same. Check in "Set up multiple displays". Technically, you will be using two displays. You may need to make an adjustment or two there for it to work.

Otherwise, just remembered for the OS side, you need to right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution". Then if necessary, "Detect" (if you do not see the internal display AND the external HDTV). Now you will need to chose primary and secondary and apply your "extend these displays" (if that's what you want). Apply and that should do it if everything else is set appropriately on the TV and GPU. "Identify" to ensure your chosen option set correctly. You'll see 1 on your set primary display and 2 on your set secondary display, or 1/2 on both if they're mirroring output (not extended).

And you're telling the TV to look at the right "AV" device input? On my remote, it is the "AV" button. On yours it may be "Input". You need to cycle through those just like any other device on a TV (e.x. DVD-player or game system).

Now if the settings are indeed all correct on the general and port for the TV, the GPU and also Windows... then I really don't know what the problem is. It should be working if that's true. It could literally be anything at this point, and not excluding a hardware fault - perhaps even a GPU driver or TV software update you haven't yet applied. I've no idea.

However, if you have another display (monitor or TV doesn't matter), try connecting your laptop to it. And similarly, if you have another PC (again doesn't matter what kind), try connecting that to this TV. We're looking to see which functions and which does not. This should tell us if it is a hardware fault and more importantly, where it is. Or, again, if it is a setting being off.

I'd honestly have to suspect a hardware fault if the settings are all correct and you've got all the latest drivers and software updates possible, and this is still not working.

You may just want to try Sony support at this point. If it isn't a hardware fault, I'd then have to suspect the TV more than anything else, as being the issue. That's doubly true if your laptop had ever before worked on an external display (of any kind). Their documentation is lackluster for this at best, so I'm sure they deal with this kind of call every day. They will be better suited to resolve this for you. UI settings options are unique to every brand, I'm only familiar with Samsung. I wish I could help you more but I can't.
