Problem with screen resolutions on new monitor

Hi. My old monitor gave out and I bought a better one. It has a native resolution of 1920x1080 (recommended) so I set it that way. But stuff didn't fit on the screen. Through the HDMI output to my TV (for watching movies), everything looked fine but not on the monitor itself, connected via VGA through a KVM so I can share with the backup computer.

Also I found that the Windows Explorer text was green at 1920x1080. When I reset the resolution to 1600x900, everything fit as before and the Explorer text went back to a more readable black.

Has anyone encountered a problem like this? Not that it makes a difference but the old one was an Acer 193W and the new one is an LG 22MP56(analog). I suppose it says analog because it's in the VGA port.

If I had two HDMI outputs, I'd try to use it to see if it makes a difference.

Oops! That was embarrassing! All I had to do what to push a button on the monitor itself! Sorry. But maybe someone will search and find this anyway.
