description for Event ID 2001 from source NvStreamSvc cannot be found

Hi,
after every restart I see this msg three times in my log, assume because there are three processes running by the same name = nvstreamsvc.exe (NVIDIA Streamer Service). Other than these messages can't tell if it's causing any problems. I am not a gamer.

Code:
Log Name:      Application
Source:        NvStreamSvc
Date:          2/8/2015 10:21:09 AM
Event ID:      2001
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      ???
Description:
The description for Event ID 2001 from source NvStreamSvc cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

NvStreamSvc
Failed to set NvVAD endpoint as default Audio endpoint [0]

Event Xml:
<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
  <System>
    <Provider Name="NvStreamSvc" />
    <EventID Qualifiers="49154">2001</EventID>
    <Level>2</Level>

  </System>
  <EventData>
    <Data>NvStreamSvc</Data>
    <Data>Failed to set NvVAD endpoint as default Audio endpoint [0]</Data>
  </EventData>
</Event>
A great deal info on this msg on various forums. No true blue answer tho.

#1 - a thread at forums.geforce.com suggested in nVidia GeForce Experience setting Preferences > GameStream to Do not stream. This did not help.

#2 - EventID.net says do this:
Quote:
To get rid of this error, stop / disable the NvStreamSvc service. Open a command prompt (as Admin) and type:

sc stop "NvStreamSvc"
sc config "NvStreamSvc" start= disabled
another poster (same thread) & not sure this is worth mentioning said "I went into Programs & features and removed the "Virtual HD Audio Driver". That seems unlikely to be the problem.

#3 - GeForce thread nvstreamsvc.exe indicates doing, what I assume would the same, from Services by setting the start type to disabled for NVIDIA Streamer Service.

#4 - Windowsvc.com
added
Quote:
How to delete this service.
sc delete "NvStreamSvc"

Drivers are current, have set GeForce Experience to update once a month. Did consider removing GeForce Exp some time back & just letting Windows Update install the drivers, since I have no need for GeForce updates which mostly apply to gamers. But then came across a couple threads wherein the nVidia Control Panel disappeared after removing GeForce Experience. Decided to leave it be, working pretty well.

Or is it quite simply telling me the component that raises this event (NVStreamSvc) is not installed on my local computer, because I play no games?

thank you

If you don't have an Nvidia Shield module, which as you're not a gamer, I assume that you don't, you can safely ignore the error. The NvStreamSvc service does not apply to you. If you want, you can go into Services.msc and disable the service, or do it by one of the methods you outlined.

The consensus on the Nvidia forums is that you only need the Nvidia drivers and PhysX, not Geforce Experience. It's an optional component.

I'm not an Nvidia expert by any means, I just did a little research on the web. Others may have a better idea of how to solve your problem, but I do know that you can safely turn the service off, or you can safely ignore the error.

Thanks Mellon Head,
that helps A Lot

Had no idea what nVidia Shield was.
Sounds like it connects my PC graphics card over the home wi-fi to a handheld gaming device, most likely a tablet running Linux/android. Then I can stream games from the PC to Shield device using ShadowPlay.

Do have a tablet with NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor & have TegraZone2 installed but again have never used for gaming.

So I just turned GameStream ON (for My Network) & GameStream says I'm ready to Stream Games from my PC to Shield Devices.
Shield (GeForce Exp) says my PC is ready to stream to SHIELD devices.
& just activated nVidia Tegrazone for the first time on my ASUS Transformer Prime.

Now if I only had a game to stream maybe I could figure out what the heck I'm doing
Guess I'll restart the PC, check the log & see what messages come up.

thanks again

Well for a guy that plays no games I certainly spent a lot of time on GameStream/ShadowPlay & Shield (TegraZone) today. After perusing many GeForce threads I am unable to get the Shield to detect the PC, or vice versa. Is it my imagination or is it extremely difficult to find subscribed threads in the geforce forum?

Did have TegraZone (tablet) updated to most recent, signed in Notifications turned on.

Several factors to consider:
Under GeForce Exp > Shield System Requirements everything has a check mark except processor & router.
is my i7-950 fast enough, I think it should be (altho not OC'd, running @ 3.06Ghz). System requirements for streaming PC games to Shield tablet state Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz or higher. CPU comparisons show the 950 performing better in most categories than the dualcore i3-2100, except for single thread perf & of course the integrated GPU wouldn't matter in this instance.
My TP-Link router is not on the approved list of routers but is pretty new & certainly fast enough = 300Mbps wireless.
Disabled Firewall, still no go. Certainly wouldn't want to run that way for long.
I don't have any games installed, perhaps that's an issue.

So I signed out of TegraZone, turned notifications off.
Disabled NVIDIA Streamer Service (Service for SHIELD Streaming) in Services, no more Event ID messages in the log, yay!
In fact the GameStream tab in GeForce Experience > Preferences is now gone. Guess that makes sense.

nVidia Control Panel & GeForce Exp working well

thanks for letting me post
