Corrupt edges on windows

Hello,
For the past few months, my Windows 7 system has a minor problem drawing the edges of windows, as shown here:

(see the junk on the left and right edges of the frontmost window).

I've updated my Nvidia drivers, but it hasn't changed anything. I've updated the Windows OS. I've just ignored the problem, but seeing as I'm not insanely busy at the moment, thought I'd spend some time trying to fix it.

Interestingly, if I try to grab a sceenshot of the problem using the Snipping Tool, as soon as I load the Snipping Tool app, the problem instantly goes away. But I managed to grab that sceenshot using the trusty old Print Scrn key. Also, if I move the offending window, it gets redrawn correctly. The problem seems to be random and not consistent.

Any suggestions anyone? My graphics specs are:

Nvidia Quadro 4000 driving a 27" Dell via DisplayPort and a Samsung SyncMaster (1680x1050px) via DVI. I also have an Nvidia GeForce GTX580 installed, not connected to any monitors (I use this for its CUDA processing for graphics acceleration in After Effects, Cinema 4D and Blender).

This also brings me on to another question - if I go directly to the Nvidia website to download new drivers, should I select drivers for the Quadro or the GTX580 card? Or does the same driver work for both cards?

Thanks,

Paul

I would choose a card and pull the other. They are each designed for 2 seperate purposes.

Get the latest drivers for that card and do a custom clean install.

That should fix the problem.

I would stick with the 4000 for your purposes

Quadro 4000 ‚

Get the driver directly from nvidia, not windows update.

Thanks for those suggestions.

I went ahead and did a clean install of the Nvidia drivers (as described here on this forum, except I did install the HD audio driver, because I have my audio routed through the DisplayPort).

After a reboot, the problem is still here. Except I now cannot load the Nvidia control panel at all (I click on it...nothing happens) and I can not hear any audio routed through the Quadro 4000 card. I'd need to set this up in the (dead) control panel!

I do not want to remove the GTX580 card because (as I mentioned in the original post) I need its CUDA processing abilities (which are superior to those of the Quadro 4000).

The Nvidia nView Desktop manager control panel loads OK. But not the main control panel.

Any further suggestions would be very welcome!

Thanks,

Paul

So now you have 2 different cards running off the same driver ?

I guess so. The last time I checked, if you go through the process of selecting your card and downloading the driver installer from the Nvidia site, it downloads the same thing. So I'm guessing the same driver is suitable for both cards. Probably.

I just used the Display Driver Uninstaller app to remove everything, then reinstalled the Nvidia drivers (this time WITHOUT installing the HD audio driver), and now everything works OK!

I have not seen the dodgy edges of windows either, but sometimes this does not appear for a few hours. Letís see what happens!

That`s good. If you don`t use the HD driver then you don`t need it.

That is odd how the audio driver affects the video output, I would think the problem was from the 2 separate cards, but as long as it works for you again

It's possible it wasn't the HD audio driver making the control panel unresponsive - maybe it was the Display Driver Uninstaller that fixed everything (well, I'm hoping it also fixed the window edge problem - I'll only be convinced it's gone after a few days of solid computer use - which will probably not happen this week - I've got a dining room to redecorate and a patio to lay!).

Oh well - the problem is still here today:

I guess I'll just have to live with it.

One of today's updates that Windows wants to install is an Nvidia update. I think I'll resist doing so.

Live with it, or try my suggestion pull 1 of the cards and see if it persists.

Try it with just the 580. Do you absolutely need both cards ?
