Ah, my apologies. it is for an HP Pavilion dv9500 laptop. When I downloaded the driver, it gave me the same error that I saw at the beginning of the thread.

also, is there any way to tell what graphics card I have based on that info? I know it's an nvidia, but I don't know the exact name of the card and Windows 7 can't tell me.

Hi. You have an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS.

You can follow this to install the latest driver:

NVIDIA Driver - Convert from Desktop to Mobile (Laptop)

But first, you can try to download the driver from NVIDIA's site for laptops. This will be easier for you and may work. If it doesn't, follow my link.

Hi Torrentg! I have a similar problem but I have an Acer Aspire 4520G running on Win 7 ultimate 64 bit. My display adapter only shows standard VGA graphics...following your instructions, here is the info on my card:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0428&SUBSYS_01211025&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0428&SUBSYS_01211025
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0428&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0428&CC_0300

I hope you can also create a custom install for my acer laptop just like for the Vaio users. Your help will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

He is no longer a member but it is an Nvidia 8400m GT You can scroll back through the thread and see if he has already done one or you can follow this and modify the .inf yourself NVIDIA MobilityModder - DriverHeaven.net Just download the latest driver from Nvidia for your card then unpack it and find the .inf file and follw the directions to the T. Or You can try this method NVIDA Driver Install - Start To Finish... Fabe post #81 has a RAR for your card.
