Windows Updates & Activation » nvidia driver update failed in windows update

I tried to update a graphics driver Windows Update had installed for my Nvidia Quadro K2000 card with a newer version from the Nvidia site (Windows Update offers no newer driver). The update failed without an error code and left me with no video driver. I tried a clean install next with the same result. The only thing Device Manager showed for Display Adapter was the Mirage Driver which I had installed for TightVNC. I have restored the drive with an Acronis image but it leaves me with a problem updating the graphics driver. I would appreciate help in resolving this.

This sounds to me like there may be something corrupted within the system open a command prompt as administrator and run sfc /scannow and report your results.

You should not let windows update update an nvidia driver.

You should have unchecked and hid the update.

If there is a driver from nvidia, there is no reason it won`t do a custom clean install.

Try again.

Windows never updated a Nvidia driver. When I first installed Windows 7 it installed the graphics driver before I caught on what was happening. There never has been a Nvidia driver on the system. I have tried a clean install with the latest Nvidia driver several times. What I have not done is uninstall the windows supplied driver before I try the Nvidia one. I've never done that before updating Nvidia drivers. Maybe it is critical this time because of the windows driver? Do you think so?

Yes, you can un install any and all video drivers through add/remove programs.

If the nvidia driver will not install, THEN use windows update and let it install the drivers and just leave it be.

Make sure you are getting the correct QUADRO driver from nvidia.

That is a good card, not an expensive card, but still a good card and it would be a shame not to take full advantage of what it can do.

Thank you Layback Bear and AddRAM. BTW I am surprised to hear that a $400 graphic card is not expensive. I guess it depends where you are coming from.
