Can an ASUS Maximus VII support 3 graphics cards?

I have an ASUS maximus VII here that I have been very happy with so far. By far one of my favorite boards to date. I am running dual GTX 780s on it and am looking to expand to 3gtx 780s..... It LOOKS like there is about a spare 6mm of clearance left over id I were to install a 3d card, but before I go drop another $450 I am hoping someone can tell me if the board will actually support 3way SLI. I cant think of why it wouldn't, but $450 is not a small amount to be doing an experiment.

    I appreciate the support!

I just did some research and see that it chokes up on the last one being PCIe2.0-8x I may buy a rampage in the future and use this one in my server farm.... We will see. Still looking for opinions. I think the obvious answer is the transfer rate is not worth it but if someone wants to tell me I'm wrong, I'm all ears.

I believe your motherboard manual should give you all that information.

Does google.com not work on your computer

I find it hard to believe you don`t know the details of your own board :)

Does it have 3 PCI- Express slots ?

If you at least posted the manufacturer`s link to the board we could do the research.

What do you think you would gain by adding a 3rd 780 ?

Just get an EVGA 980 Classified or Kingpin or a Titan X

The obvious answer is what you are looking at, if it will work at all. You have 2 PCIe 3.0 slots and the 1 PCIe 2.0 X4 slot. Whether they will work together or not I don't know, but even if they do a third card will give minimal performance, at best. It is not worth the money, plus it will disable the top X1 slot and the M.2 slot.

Agreed, not even worth the effort or money.

Steve can tell you all about the performance of a 980 Classified :)
