8800 GTS incorrectly displaying resolutions

So I made the switch from Vista to 7 without any hardware changes. Now Windows can display 1024x768 normally, but selecting any higher resolution (say, 1154x864) will make the monitor go into 1280x1024 while still saying it's in the selected resolution, and make things look blurry and squished as a result, and it's locked into 60 Hz, which is something you'd expect from an LCD monitor, but I'm using an EV700 CRT (yeah I'm old).

I didn't have any of these problems in Vista. Perhaps I'll have to mournfully switch back?

What driver version are you using?

Well now instead of stretching I'm getting black borders

I've just read thru a bunch of 8800 gt threads and came up blank. Other than suggesting that you make sure your bios and chipset drivers are up to date, the only other suggestion is to try an older driver. In one thread they suggest the 190.62 which is the default driver windows will load. Yet the user above above in that thread, Lee has the same card using the driver you just tried. Hopefully you'll get some other suggestions. Sorry Fabe

Oh yes the EDID I did some goggling on that as well a while back. You might need to look in to it. Their is a lot of information on it. And the use of a program called powerstrip. Forgot about that. Fabe http://download.cnet.com/PowerStrip/...3_4-14972.html It's primary use is in multi monitor display but has over 500 controls over your hardware. It is for Vista so may need to be installed in compatibility mode. Compatibility Mode You can give it a try. Don't want to leave you with this unresolved but it's really early in the morning , so I'll check back. Don't give up on 7 once we get this figured out your going to really like it.

You could try Windows Update or search Google for the monitor driver before doing something like that.
