    Dell Optiplex GX620 GPU Upgrade

Hello I wanted to ask about a graphics card upgrade for my dell optiplex gx620.

    Current specs:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.00Ghz
    RAM: 4 GB
    GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS
    HDD: Seagate 250 GB

I am pretty sure I can upgrade the GPU but don't know which card works the best for it. Also my Power supply is 280 watts.

Thanks and if you need more info please tell me.

With the very small power supply you will be limited. Unless there is a pressing need for better graphics I would just stay with what you have. Many (most) of the Dell's in the period when the GX620 (2005 area) was made have proprietary power supplies. If you have the full desktop you "may" be able to find a higher power replacement. If this GX620 is the smaller compact case models I would forget it.

Dell only supports XP as the latest OS, although that is not the restricting hardware issue.

Sorry to be so negative, but you are very limited.

By all means it is okay! I do think I can upgrade my power supply though with mine. Also I have windows 7 64-bit with all drivers installed. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

I have added a picture of the PC because I don't know what form factor it is. If you need more, please let me know. Thank you

That is considered the "Desktop" model.

I ran across a replacement Video card thread on the Dell forum for the 755 model, which MAY be applicable to your model.
    Check it out.

I saw it and it has the same slots as my current one so it should work. Is that the highest one or can i go for 2GB of Vram? I heard that more vram is better.

That is an SFF/Small Form Factor case. There are some models with an even smaller case, may be called UltraSFF, identifiable by the use of a CD/DVD drive like those used in Notebooks, instead of the size of those used in Desktops. I have a couple of Dells the same size [Dell Inspiron 530S and Dell Dimension C521], changing from the onboard video to an Add-in card requires the Low Profile card or one that comes with changeable mounting plates.

    Optiplex GX 620

Hello, I'm replying to this because I have discovered a loop-hole in windows 7 comaptibility for this PC....

I have a Dell Optiplex GX 620 Standard Tower with Intel P4 HT @ 3.0 GHz, and a bios updated to A11. i was surprised to discover that if you Have a Dell Proprietary windows 7 install disc that windows & will run just fine....... I am just one of those PC enthusiasts that spends time finding ways around that Compatibility Issues that windows OS's seem to have.
