Driver for ATI Rage Mobility M1

Hello,

I have recently set up a very old laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit; a Dell Latitude CPx J with a 650Mhz Pentium 3 processor and 128(!) MB of RAM.

For what it is, the system is working relatively well and I am surprised with Windows 7's performance on such a low-end configuration. However, the driver for the graphics adapter (ATI Rage Mobility M1) does not work. It is the latest driver from the Dell site which is intended for Windows XP.

While the driver is detected and installed by Windows 7, after a restart I receive the following error in Device Manager:

Quote:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I've tried reinstalling the driver to no avail. Searching for the error code did not turn up anything useful.

Are there any solutions/workarounds for this? Or does anyone know the actual cause of this error? Any and all input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
GBZ

Thank you for your response.

I certainly do understand that, however the latest drivers for this card are for XP. Windows 7 accepts XPDM drivers as I've seen on multiple other laptops, so I fail to see how it would be different for this card, even though it's old.
